Chapter 3

"And there's your fire," Daryl said as he finally started the fire.

It had been exactly five minutes since Daryl had returned with firewood and now we had our fire for the night.

"Great work," I said as I began to enjoy the heat from the fire.

"You wanna use two of our rabbits for dinner?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah, why not. We'll make up for it tomorrow," I said before beginning to cook our dinner.

After we had done this, we immediately ate our rabbits before relaxing in front of the fire and enjoying a long moment of silence.

"You got any more family?" Daryl asked.

"Not much for silence, huh?" I asked.

"Not really. So got any?" Daryl asked.

"Other than my daughter, I have a half brother and a half sister. Or maybe I should say had," I said.

"What happened to them?" Daryl asked.

"Walkers I believe. I can't be certain," I said.

"What do you mean?" Daryl asked.

"Well when the apocalypse started, I headed back home to go rescue my brother, Jason and my sister, Caroline. However, when I got home the house was empty. The windows were smashed, there was blood everywhere and everything was a mess," I explained.

"They could still be alive," Daryl said.

"Maybe, but do you know how likely those odds are? Not likely at all. I like to be realistic instead of giving myself false hope. It makes things easier for when the pain comes," I said.

"Dark way to see life," Daryl said.

"It's a dark life," I said.

"Any more family?, you got a mum?" Daryl asked.

"She's dead hopefully," I said.

"Hopefully?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah my mum was a coward. She was never there for me and just fed me lies time and time again. I hope that I never see her again," I explained.

"And your dad?" Daryl asked.

"Oh that bastard's dead. He died when I was eight. Drank himself to death," I said.

"I'm sorry," Daryl said.

"Don't be. He doesn't deserve you're sorry," I said.

"So, if you're dad died then your brother and sister comes from your mum's side?" Daryl questioned.

"Yeah they do. My mum remarried, popped out my brother and sister and then we all lived happily ever after. Well, at least they did. I didn't," I said.

"Why's that?" Daryl asked.

"Stuff happened. Bad stuff, and that's the end of that cruel story. What about you, any family?" I asked.

"I have an older brother. You'll meet him when he comes back from the city," Daryl said.

"What's he like?" I asked.

"A dick mostly but you'll get used to him," Daryl answered.

"Good to know. If you're tired, I'll take first watch," I said.

"You sure?" Daryl questioned.

"I'm sure," I said.

I then watched as Daryl drifted off to sleep while I had my bow in hand, keeping watch, just like I said I would. After some hours had past, Daryl then woke up and began to take watch while I slept.

The next morning I awoke and Daryl and I quickly ate breakfast before we continued to hunt any animal we could find. This went on for a while before we finally began to part ways...

"You sure you wanna go?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah, I should really head back. Check on my daughter and bring back food for camp while you stay out here and continue looking for food," I said.

"Hey I got food," Daryl said.

"Not enough. I mean, come on. Look at yours compared to mine. I have a least twenty three here and how many do you have? Sixteen? Seventeen?" I asked.

"Eighteen actually," Daryl said.

"Catch up to my number and then come back," I said.

"Okay fine," Daryl said.

"See ya Dixon," I said as I began to walk off.

"I'll see ya," Daryl said before walking off in the other direction to me.

I began to smile as we departed, enjoying how much Daryl made me laugh before I finally reached the camp with the food that I had promised them...
