Arrested

Immediately we got up and I told my feet to move properly. I was running right behind Luke, who'd quickly thrown the bottle in a nearby dumpster. We ducked behind a bush, waiting for the moment to pass. My heart was beating like crazy and my hands were sweaty. The huge amount of adrenaline rushed through my body; this felt very exciting, but at the same time really scary. What if we got caught and put in jail? What would they say?

"Your daughter was arrested for underage drinking in public with one of her best friends. Oh and that friend is also assumed to be mentally ill."

My parents would freak out, and not in the least...
Luckily we had escaped an arrest, but the risk to get caught hiding was still there.
"What are you thinking about?" I flinched when I heard Luke's voice beside me.
"Shh," I whispered, "Do you want us to get arrested or something?"
"Jessy, we aren't going to get caught," he grinned casually, "Let alone be arrested. We're safe. They lost us."
He then squeezed my hand in a comforting way, which I had to admit felt really nice. It felt really nice to be in here, in a quiet place where nobody could see us. Just the two of us, with no one around. That had been a long time. It felt so good. At this moment I just knew I loved Luke. Never had I been able to let him go: he was the one who could make me do anything. He made me happy, he made me sad. How he made me hate him, but boy, did he make me love him.
I looked at him and realised he was already staring. I looked into his beautiful blue eyes and noticed that he leaned forward.
"Kiss me." I whispered as he grabbed my neck like he always did when he was about to kiss me. But just as our lips touched, someone grabbed me by the collar and I saw that Luke was pulled back and pushed against a tree.
"Let me go!" I screamed and tried to break free, "Let him go, we didn't do anything!"
I had the chance to turn around and looked at the police officer, who just stood in front of me with his arms crossed across his chest. Out of the corner of my eye I saw that Luke was still struggling to get out of the other officer's grasp, which I knew wouldn't do him good.
"So, what did you think you were doing?" The police officers asked us as Luke finally gave up the fight.
"Nothing." I just said, afraid to give away too much information. By now I was a little scared, but Luke just looked pissed.
"Nothing?" the man repeated, "It looked a lot like you were drinking in public and running from us. Can I see your ID?"
Without a doubt I gave it to him, now knowing that this would have consequences. He looked at it for a moment and then looked at me. "You are under eighteen, you know that, right?"
I only nodded and knew that we had to come with them. I was right and even when I was forced into the back of the car, I knew this was going to get us in trouble. Luke, however, seemed like he was really pissed. He had refused to show his ID and struggled when were discovered, and I didn't know if this was going to get him in even more trouble. "Fucking cops." Luke said from the seat beside me and I groaned. I didn't know about arrests much, but I knew swearing at a police officer was not done.
We were guarded inside the police station and while Luke went into another room, I had to wait somewhere else. My nerves were now getting the best of me and I was on the verge of breaking into tears.
What were they going to do? Would they call my parents? Would they make me do community service, or maybe even put us in jail? I wasn't ready for that! What I did was wrong, but there were worse things. Right? My hands were shaking and I felt faint, now that I realised how much trouble I was in.

"Do you want something to drink?"
I looked up to find a nice-looking woman offering me a cup of water. I shook my head, "I just... don't call my parents. Please I don't want them to..."
"Calm down, Jessy. It's Jessy, right?" I nodded. "How do you know that?" Stupid question, she already saw my ID. She probably knew everything about me already.
"I know your father. He's a friend of mine."
Now I recognised Anne: she went by our house sometimes; her and my dad had been friends since college. But with all my nerves I hadn't dared to take a close look at her. Now I was in even more trouble. Her friend's daughter was here, in front of her, arrested for underage drinking. She would never be able to look at me again without thinking I was the worst person in the world.
"I know what you're thinking, but I hope this is the first and last time you're here, and you aren't a criminal in my eyes," she kindly smiled, "Now, who's the handsome boy that was with you?"

This was an obvious attempt at distracting me, and I gladly took the opportunity.
"Luke Hemmings."
"Is he your boyfriend?"
I shook my head.
"But you wish he was, right?"
Right to the point. I nodded and felt my cheeks heat up. That happened all the time when I talked, or even thought about him. Anne smiled and I raised an eyebrow.
"Aren't you supposed to be at least a little mean to me? I mean..."
"No, I'm just here to find out why you did it, while we figure out what to do. And I want you to feel comfortable, even though that's going to be hard. We called your parents, though. It's something we have to do since you're under eighteen."
"Shit," I put my hand in my hair, "But, to answer your question, I just did it because I wanted to."
"Are you sure that Luke didn't force you to?"
"Of course," I stated, "With all due respect, I'm almost eighteen. I'm able to make my own decisions, and sometimes they're dumb, I know."
Anne was about to respond when the door opened. The man who had grabbed me earlier stood in the doorway.
"Her parents are here. Come with me, Jessy."
He was clearly a lot nicer than before. I stood up without saying anything, bowing my head because I was already too embarrassed to face my parents. Just when we walked through the doors, someone grabbed my hand. The way he grabbed my hand told me that it was Luke. That made me relax a little and I looked up. "It's okay." he said and we walked over to our parents, who were standing in the middle of the hallway.
Tears were in my mum's eyes and she didn't even try to cover up that she was angry, but my dad didn't show any emotion at all. That was even worse. When my dad didn't show any emotion, he tried to hide his disappointment and that was really hurtful.
"Hi." Luke and I awkwardly said at the same time and my dad put a hand on Anne's shoulder.
"Anne, thank you." She smiled back at him, "You're welcome. She got away with it this time. We won't give them trouble for this, but next time," she looked at me now, "You're in big trouble."
"I'm sorry." I nodded and looked at my mum and dad.
"We'll talk about this later." my dad simply said and we walked out.

I didn't see Luke after that, but when I was home, I got a text. The fact that my parents hadn't taken my phone away from me, was unbelievable.

Hey babe, how are you? Glad we got away with it ;) I'll be under your window in a few minutes. I am so not staying home tonight. Parents are flipping out. x ;)
I laughed. He was crazy and I loved him.
