Damon's P.O.V
I almost lost myself tonight. My wolf was grumbling in it's cage at the fact that our mate was so close. Her sweet scent sent him into a frenzy, and he wanted her right then and there. I managed to satiate him by marking her. A hickie wouldn't last, but it would ward off possible competition.
My wolf growled at the thought of another male touching what was mine. No one tested my patience more than Daniel. He was asking for death by thinking he had some claim on what rightfully belonged to me. Dani is my mate. She is mine. If he was a wolf, my marking her would make that clear, but humans were daft creatures. Even when someone was taken they felt the need to chase after them.
I walked into the pack house grimacing at the soda cans and pizza boxes by the front door. Sometimes I hated living in a house with five teenage wolves.
I went up to my room wanting peace and quiet to think. I had to figure out what to do about Dani. She being my mate was no longer a question. The way my wolf acted was enough confirmation. Now there was the issue of telling her what I am. Would she even believe me? If I showed her, would she run?
"Damon," James called catching me outside my door. "I've got something I think you want to hear."
"Spit it out," I spat irritation evident in my voice.
"The Luna is arriving tomorrow." My tense shoulders slackened.
"When?"
"At noon."
"Tell the omegas to have the house tidy by then. Inform your sister to be on her best behavior."
"Okay. Uh...you seem oddly calm about this."
"I haven't seen the Luna in two years. I'm not sure how to feel."
James nodded before disappearing around the corner. I entered my room making sure to lock the door behind me. I sat on the edge of my bed and ran a hand through my hair.
Tomorrow the Luna is coming.
Tomorrow my mother is coming.

"I spent the first few months in Russia dealing with off topic politics before heading to France. Our allies there are still loyal. Germany, Italy, and Great Britain proved to be more of a struggle. They didn't approve of a female alpha, and now they don't want a child as a leader. They can't look at the facts in front of them. All they care about is keeping everyone under their thumb. If someone so much as strays away-" She gripped her cup causing the small china cup to shatter. An omega hurried over and swept away the broken glass while another brought a fresh cup of tea. "I think we should wait to finish talking about politics. It only gets me riled up. I want to know what my son has been up up to."
My mother was gone for two years traveling around the world as a diplomat to secure old allies. After the death of my father, certain allies, the ones the followed the old way, disbanded the alliance. Some revered him while others tolerated him, but they drew the line on a female alpha. I became the face of the Crimson Sky Pack with my mother making the major decisions in the background. The Council criticized my pack by saying I was a boy and therefore incompetent of leading a pack. Hypocrites, all of them. One pack in Italy, at this moment, is being led by a fourteen year old.
The stress of the recent events had taken its toll on everyone especially my mother. She seemed to age significantly in two years. Grey streaks ran through her raven hair and the youthful glow in her green eyes had dimmed, but she still had her spirit.
"Our pack is still the strongest in North America," I replied. "Not a single rebel report."
She smiled. "I just said I didn't want to talk about political standings. I want to know how my son is doing. Last time I checked you were dating that nice girl Rebecca."
