"Get your hands off my mate."
My eyes widened at the person who entered the room. She saw me and smiled.
"Hello, Dani."
Olivia.
"You too are mates?" I asked in disbelief. Olivia told me she would never date Issac even if he was the last man on earth because of his disgusting personality. I wonder what changed her mind.
"I know. Who would have thought, right?" Olivia said smiling. "I always thought he was just a playboy chasing skirts, but he's actually sweet and caring."
"Buuullllshhhiiitttt," Alyx drawled out dramatically. "You two have known each other since freshman year and didn't say a word to each other. Now halfway through junior year, you're completely smitten."
"There are plenty of wolves who don't realize their mates until later on." Issac replied. "Sometimes they need a little push. That's what mating season is for."
"I think mating season is the last thing you want to bring up."
Issac's jaw clenched. "If my mate bothers you so much, then get a second opinion." His brown eyes suddenly landed on me. "Dani is the Luna, so just ask her."
Alyx stepped up to my defense. "Entrance into the pack house is to the Alpha's desecration."
"You would have that line memorized wouldn't you? Maybe in those old traditional packs Luna may just be a title, but in a modern packs, the Luna's world has jus as much authority as the Alpha. So, Dani, can my mate stay?"
"Oh, umm, I don't see why she can't?"
"Then it's settled."
Alyx sighed in defeat. "Fine, she can stay, but the minute she slips up, I will do everything in my power to make sure she is kicked out." She turned on her heel and left the room.
"Well, I've got border patrol, so I'll see you guys later." He kissed Olivia before giving me a smile. "Thanks for understanding, Dani."
He left, and I stood there confused. Did Issace just smile and thank me?
"I told you that he was kind," Olivia said. "Some people can change; they just need to right person."
"I guess."
An awkward silence passed.
"Um...I want to apologize for being a bitch to you," Olivia said breaking the silence. "I let jealously ruin our chance of a friendship. I hope you can forgive me so when can start over and be true friends."
"I forgive you. It would be kind of miserable to hate each other and live together."
"Agreed."
Suddenly James entered the room followed by several guards, women, children, and a very angry Alyx.
"Make sure everyone is accounted for," James ordered one solider.
I pulled Alyx to the side. "What's going on?"
"Some wolves were spotted by the Northern Territory line," she replied nonchalantly. "The territory is now on a code red alert, and I would be out in the field helping if someone hadn't snitched on me and got me suspended for a month." She shouted the last part in James' direction, but he ignored her. She plopped down and stretched out on one of the sofas. "Now we're stuck here until the threat is gone."
"You seem oddly calm about this," Olivia said. She scooted over to avoid the bottom of Alyx's shoes.
"Back then the rogue threat was higher so every month there would be a surprise drill. You just get used to it." She stretched out farther eventually driving Olivia off the couch. I took a seat on the arm of the couch. I guess we would be here for awhile.

Damon's P.O.V
I stood a few feet away from the territory line. On the other side of the line were three rogues, two men and a woman. The woman had long tangled brown hair and large green eyes. The men were both muscled, but lean. One had shaggy blonde hair, but his brown eyes were spaced out. The other had cropped black hair and steel grey eyes. The three were dirty and almost looked feral. An effect of rogue life was that one could lose his or her humanity.
"The great Alpha welcomes us," the woman cackled. "Look, Zeke, it's Nathaniel Grey." She pulled on Zeke's arm excitedly. "He's a notorious soldier. I can't believe I'm meeting him in the flesh."
"Shut it, Grace," Zeke barked and smacked the woman on the back of the head.
"Ow, Zeke, the hurt."
"We didn't come here for you to gawk at the enemy."
"You didn't need to hit me."
The two could probably bicker for hours, but I wanted them far away from my territory.
"Unless you want to be killed for trespassing, I suggest you leave," I growled.
"Oh, the little Alpha has a temper," the woman taunted. "He thinks he's all big and bad."
"Technically, Alpha, was aren't on your territory," Zeke said. "Killing us would be considered murder, yes? The Council don't particularly like us, but justice is still received for those who hunt us."
The soldiers behind me growled at the challenge. The woman flinched and partially his behind Zeke. The other male was still spaced out.
Zeke smirked. "Don't chase us off just yet, Alpha. Our Alpha wanted us to deliver a present. Go get it, Ed."
The shaggy haired man snapped out of his stupor. He stumbled over to a bush and came back with a medium sized gift wrapped box with a large black bow on top. He placed the box just outside the territory line.
"I wrapped it," the woman said. She smiled and blushed. "Do you like it?"
"I don't like this, Damon," Luke whispered. "Something's not right here."
I nodded and turned to the scouts. "Inspect the box."
Two wolves moved forward and sniffed the package.
"Be careful," the woman warned. "It's very fragile." She then broke into a fit of laughter.
The wolves shook their head indicating nothing out of the norm. They gently pushed the box forward so it rested at my feet.
"Will you leave if I open it?" I asked.
The woman nodded vigorously. Her face was lit up like a child's on Christmas. What was in the box that made her so excited?
I slid the ribbon off, opened the lid, and looked inside.
What's in the box?
