"Who has control over the Canadian border?"

I shifted through the boxes of old pack records trying to match them with the correct files. It took us an hour just to haul all the boxes up here, and we weren't even half way through the first box. It didn't help that nothing was in order.

"Dani, I asked you a question," Alyx said. She chucked a scrap piece of paper at my head finally gaining my attention.

"What?" I replied slightly annoyed. If she kept slacking off we would never finish.

"I said who has control over the Canadian border?"

"Night Star or something."

She threw another piece of paper at me. "That's not even a pack."

"Well, it's a little hard to focus on my studies when you have me sorting through files." I glanced over and saw her lounging on her bed. "And you aren't even helping! Remind me again why I agreed to help you? This is your punishment for running around town as a drunk werewolf."

"First of all, I was not drunk, just slightly intoxicated, and I was fully aware of what I was doing. Second, we're friends and that's what friends do. Besides did you really want my brother to tutor you?"

I sighed and went back to digging through the boxes. "At least start typing up the completed files."

"Fiiinnnneeeee." She dramatically rolled off the bed and dragged herself to the computer.

I rolled my eyes and continued my tedious task. I picked up one folder causing everything to spill out. A photo of Damon with his arms around a girl landed by my knee. Just the thought of him being with another girl made something burn inside my chest. It didn't help that she was beautiful. Long brown hair framed her heart shaped face. Her almond colored eyes were genuinely warm like her smile. She was small, but curvy. She was much more beautiful then I could ever hope to be, and, yet, Damon chose me.

"Hey, Alyx, who's this?" I handed her the photo.

"That's Rebecca. She was Damon's second mate."

My eyes narrowed, and the burn I was feeling grew. "Second mate? Who was his first?"

"Ekaterina Markovic. She's the Alpha of the Russian pack, the Midnight Runners. She broke it off once she found her true mate."

"So what about his second mate? What was she like?"

"She was an Alpha's daughter, but she didn't act like it. She was quiet, sincere, and made Damon smile. Whenever she was with him, he seemed to forget that he was an Alpha. He was carefree. Then she stopped coming around so we assumed he broke up with her. All it did was make him as stiff as my brother."

But Damon is happy around me, too, right?

I picked up one of the scattered documents.

Brave Heart Pack Records- 578
Name: Rebecca Marie Blu
Blood Status: Vitium
Rank: Alpha

I set the paper aside, but there was a nagging feeling in the back of my mind. Why didn't Damon tell me he had two mates before me? Don't wolves only get one?

"Where's Damon now?" I asked.

"Probably getting back from a meeting. Why?"

"I need to go."

"Wait, you're still coming back to help me right?"

I ignored her as she called after me. The only one who could truly answer my questions was Damon.
