Never Expected (a Chandler Riggs/Grayson Riggs fanfic)

A Christmas Surprise

"So new and improved Daniel, what do you feel like doing today?" Grayson wonders.
"Today I feel like going on an adventure. All I need to do is pack."
"Pack? What kind of...wait, are you going to a different country?"
"Yep. My flight leaves in eight hours."
"Where are you going and how long will you be gone?"
"I'll be back in five months, a week before Christmas. And I'm going to Winnipeg Manitoba to visit some family members I haven't seen since I was two."
"You're going on an airplane?" Chandler asks. "Because my boyfriend Mason almost died in a plane crash."
"Keyword almost."
"Don't be a smartass Daniel!" Chandler implies. "Mason was lucky to survive, if your plane were to crash it could be a different story."
"Chandler's right Daniel. We may never see you again sinces plane crashes are unpredictable."
"I know. I promise that I'll be as safe as possible."
"You've been living with us for a long time now, so to us you're no longer Daniel Beliveau... you're new name is now Daniel Riggs." Grayson states.
"Hmmm, Daniel-Nicholas Riggs-Beliveau, or Daniel-Nicholas Beliveau-Riggs? Which one sounds better?"
"The first one." Chandler declares.
"Yeah, definitely the first one."
"So what should we do before I leave?"
"Call your kids and we'll call some of our friends, then we can all go hangout at the park." Grayson replies.
"Ok."
Right as I took out my phone it started ringing. Tracy was calling me, so I answered the call as I left the room.
"Hey Tracy, how's it going?"
"I'm good, but Kaden isn't doing so good."
"Is he sick?"
"No. On his way home he was the victim of a hit and run. His left leg is broken and he has three broken ribs. He's unconscious right now. I'm sure that it would mean a lot to Kaden if you were here when he wakes up."
"Of course, I'll be right over."
"Second floor, third door on the right. So when you get off the elevator go left down the hallway."
"Ok. Is Alice there?"
"Yes she is. Here, I'll let you talk to her."
"Dad?"
"Hi sweetie, how's it going?"
"I'm just worried about my brother. He's not going to die...is he?"
"No, he's not. He's tough, just like his dad."
"I know, you've said that before."
"How long has he been unconscious?"
"Five days."
"Why didn't you or Tracy call me when you found out?"
*Off the call* "Find out what?" Grayson queries.
"Because we were too worried about Kaden."
"Well I'm on my way, so I'll see you in a bit sweetie."
"Ok, bye dad. Love you."
"I love you too."
After the call ended I answered Grayson's question.
"My son is in the hospital."
"What happened?"
"Hit and run."
"Is he ok?"
"His left leg is broken and he has three broken ribs. Right now he's currently unconscious."
"How are you going to get to the hospital?"
"A cab, run as fast as I can, borrow your bike."
"You can borrow my bike on one condition."
"Lock it up so it doesn't get stolen?"
"Yes, but I also want you to promise me that you'll be careful."
"I will. You have my word."

45 minutes later...
Kaden's Hospital Room...
"You're just in time dad, Kaden just started to wake up."
I walked over to Alice, hugged her, and then waited for my son to fully wake up, which only took a few minutes."
"W-w-where...am...I?"
"You're in the hospital."
"Who...who...are you?"
"I'm your dad, next to me is your sister, and to your right is your Aunt Tracy."
"How did I get here? And why am I here?"
"You were a victim of a hit and run, and you were brought here in an ambulance...five days ago."
"Five days ago, that can't be right."
"Why's that?"
"Because I was visiting a friend yesterday."
"Kaden, how many fingers am I holding up?"
I only put up five, three on one hand and two on the other.
"Three."
"Your son is not only experiencing memory loss, he's also experiencing some dementia. None of this is permanent, it should only last a few months and then Kaden should be back to normal. We will have to keep him here for two more weeks just to be sure that Kaden has fully healed from that incident and to be sure that he doesn't go into shock."
"Ok, thanks for the update doc."

5 hours later...
Grayson's POV
"So how's Kaden doing Daniel?"
"He's going to have to stay in the hospital for two weeks."
"It's that bad?"
"He's suffering from memory loss and dementia, Grayson. Thankfully it's not permanent."
"So what are you going to do about your flight?"
"I canceled it for now. Kaden comes first. Once he's all healed up then I'll go on my trip."
"What about your family in Canada? Won't they be disappointed?"
"A little bit, but they'll understand why."
"Can we see Kaden?"
"Tomorrow, ok Grayson?"
"Ok."
"Daniel?"
"Yes Grayson?"
"Meet me up in my room in ten minutes."
"Ok."
As Grayson departed Chandler approached me.
"Why does Grayson want you to meet him up in his room ten minutes from now?"
"No idea."
"I know you're lying Daniel. You can tell me, I'll keep it a secret."
"Promise?"
"I promise. Cross my heart."
"You probably already figured this out, but Grayson and I are a couple."
"Have you been treating him right?"
"Of course I have. He's the love of my life."
Chandler examined my clothed body a few times.
"I don't know Daniel, I think that you'd be much happier with me, not Grayson."
"No, I wouldn't. Now if you'd excuse me I have to go see my boyfriend."
"You're new boyfriend is right here."
"You may be charming, but Grayson has the good looks and a great personality."
"So you're only with my brother because of his good looks?"
"I never said that."
"You kinda did."
"You're just jealous Chandler. Jealous that I chose Grayson over you!"
"Chandler Riggs doesn't get jealous."
"Everyone gets jealous Chandler. EVERYONE."
"Whatever!"
