Dr Katie

The rest of the week was spent in much the same way.
One evening after visiting her mum, Kate announced she wanted to be a doctor like Jac. Ella found an old toy that medical kit in the back of the cupboard
"Most three year olds want to be nurses not doctors" Fletch commented handing Jac a mug of tea
"Girl power" Jac replied smiling
They watched as Katie solemnly listened to her toy dog's heart with the stethoscope and took his pulse.
"I think he's broken his leg like mummy"
"Ok" said Fletch "I know just the thing"
He found a cardboard inside of a toilet roll and a bandage from the first aid kit.then he helped Katie fit them to the dog's leg
"There" he said admiring his handiwork "be better in no time"
"Thank you nurse Fletcher" Katie said seriously
Jac giggled as Fletch huffed "you been teaching her Naylor" he asked good naturedly
Jac and Katie looked at each other and burst into laughter
Fletch scowled but then joined in.
Later they were getting ready for bed in the bathroom. Jac was taking her make up off, Fletch had just finished brushing his teeth. He leant on the sink and considered his wife. She really was beautiful.
"What are you staring at Nurse Fletcher"
"I'm ok with being a nurse you know. I work hard, I know what I'm doing.... most of time"
"I know babe. I couldn't do what you do. Not enough patience and terrible bedside manner"
Jac turned to face him. "Is this about mine and Katie's little joke earlier?"
"No not really. I'm just having one of my rare 'what is someone like you doing with someone like me'"
"Christ Fletch we've been together 7 years and it would have been longer if I hadn't been such a mess back then. Does that not tell you something?" She shook him by the shoulders
"I know, I know. I know you love me I don't doubt that. We wouldn't be the people we are if we didn't do the jobs that we do would we"
"Exactly" she said relieved that his boyish grin had returned
"So Doctor" he said circling her waist and sneaking one of his hands into her pyjama vest top "you wanna play doctors and nurses"
Jac laughed "we have never once played 'doctors and nurses' I don't intend to start now but you can" she said kissing him "take me to bed"
"Oh alright then, if you insist"
