It’s Thursday, I’m in my final class ever at this school. No matter how much I’ve hated this school, I really am going to miss it. The bell rung, this is the last time I will hear that ringing. I said good bye to my teacher for English and headed out to collect my bag. I swung it over my shoulder and began my decent down the stairs to say good bye for the last time to all of my friends. They were all patiently waiting. It was raining and they were all drenched, but I knew they didn’t care. I made my way over to them, feeling my emotions come over me. By the time I reached them I was also drenched, my makeup running down my cheeks.
“Hey.” I spoke softly.
“We’re really gonna miss you.” Bella one of my friends said.
“I’m going to miss all of you so, so much.” I said.
I gave each of my friends a hug and then moved to my best friend Lara. Her expression was blank but I could tell she was upset.
“Lara, I’m going to miss you so much.” I said hugging her. She hugged me back tightly.
“Pinkie promise me we won’t lose contact.” She said pulling away and holding up her pinkie.
We have done pinkie promises since we were in primary school and we never ever break a pinkie promise.
“I pinkie promise.” I replied linking our pinkies together.
I hugged one last time and then I had to go. The tears welled up in my eyes but I sucked them back. I made my way to where mum was picking me up which is just across the road from school at the servo. I jumped in the car and put my head phones in and blasted my music, I didn’t even listen to my mum for the whole car drive home.
Once we arrived home I went to my room. I was thinking about everything… what if I wasn’t accepted at my new school? What if no one liked me? But them again what if this move is a good thing? Pffft this move will never be a good thing!
Mum and I ate dinner and chatted about things, she was trying to get my mind of the move… I could tell. After dinner I pretty much went straight to bed as our flight is at 5 am because as soon as we get there, we have to go to my new school.
****
I woke up, my eyes stinging because I’ve had barely any sleep. I pulled myself up off of the mattress that had been laid out as my bed was on its way to Melbourne and began getting ready, doing my makeup and what not. After that I began getting dressed, I always take pride in what I wear and how I look. I grabbed a pair of cobalt blue jeans and a white over-sized shirt and paired them with a pair of black heels. Even though I’m only fifteen I do like my heels.
I grabbed my leopard print suitcase that I had packed and wheel it down the stairs with a bit of struggle. Mum had been very busy the past week getting the house completely packed up and cleaned and booking flights… luckily mum had already organised a house for us down there.
I entered the kitchen where I found my mum with her suitcase ready and eating breakfast.
“You look nice this morning.” She said smiling at my outfit.
“Thanks mum.” I replied.
“Want some breakfast?” She quizzed.
“Nah, I’m not hungry.” I said.
I looked down to my watch and saw that the time was 3:30 am, and we had to leave soon. It only takes 20 minutes to get to the airport from where I live.
We left our house, the house I had lived in my whole life. As we drove off I looked back at the house and smiled, some of my greatest things happened it that house and now I have to say good bye to that.
After checking our bags we headed to the gate we were assigned to and sat down and waited for our flight to begin boarding.
“Flight 231476 is now boarding please make your way to gate 19.” I heard a voice say over the speaker.
“That’s us darling.” Mum said standing up.
We made our way over to the ladies at the door out to the plane. I handed her my ticket and watched as she scanned it then handed it back to me. I walked up the stairs, the sound of my black heels clicking on the metal steps as I stood on each one. Mum and I made our way to our seats and sat down, fastening out seatbelts and preparing for take-off.
Once the plane had lifted off of the ground and we were allowed to turn our phones on, I jammed my head phones into my ears and began bopping away to my music.
****
The plane landed and we were now on our way to pick up the rental car. It was now 8 am and we had a 2 hour drive to Glenroy… my new home.
--
Once we arrived in the middle of Glenroy, mum thought it would be best if we went to my new school before heading to our new house… da fuq is wrong with this woman? She’s my mum and I love her and all, but seriously, sometimes her choices are strange.
Anyway we arrived at Penola Catholic College at around 10:30 am. Everyone was in class and it was silent and you could really hear my heals on the concrete. We had a hard time finding the administration office; we looked like idiots walking around the school. We turned around and spotted two boys stood chatting in the hall way, wearing long black trousers, with a white blouse, blue tie and a maroon jacket… god help me if I have to wear anything like that.
“Darling can you go ask them where the office is.” My mum asked… WHAT!
“Why.” I snapped.
“Just do it.” She hissed.
“Fine!” I said walking towards them.
They were happily chatting away and laughing at one another, but because of my mum, I have to interrupt that.
“Um excuse me.” I said shyly tapping one of them on the back… gosh this is awkward.
“Yes.” He said spinning around to face me.
“Um sorry, I’m Carter and I’m starting on Monday I was wondering where the office is?” I quizzed.
“Oh hey well I’m James and that’s Daniel but you can call him Skip, and the office is just down this hall and to the left.” He replied happily.
“Well nice to meet you both and thanks.” I said cheerfully. Maybe this school won’t be so bad, these boys seem nice.
“You too I guess we’ll see you on Monday.” Daniel said.
“Yep.” I said.
We said good bye and I headed back over to mum. I told her where we had to go and that’s exactly where we went. We had a quick chat to the principal about everything and enrolled me officially. I got shown around and introduced to a few teachers and I got the usual ‘oh em gee it’s the new girl’ look from everyone.
After that we found our way back to our new home, apparently it was on the rich side of Glenroy. I pushed the door open, it really was beautiful. It had three levels, a massive kitchen and dining area. 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, this place is perfect.
“Go pick a room.” Mum said placing her suitcase down on the cold white tiles.
“Really any room?” I said shocked.
“Yep any room.” She repeated.
I squealed with excitement and ran up and down the many stairs trying to find what room I wanted. It was so hard because they were all amazing. I ended up decided on the room that had fluffy white carpet with a massive bocany and an en-suit bathroom. The room was literally huge, it was absolutely perfect.
