Carter’s POV
Stepping into my house was an odd feeling. I hadn’t been here in what seemed like ages. The butterflies formed in my stomach as I didn’t know what my mum would say or do once she saw me. To be honest I was grateful that Jai’s hand was intertwined with mine; he makes me feel safe, when I’m with him it feels like nothing bad can happen to me.
My house is quiet; the only sound that could be heard was the sound of my breathing along with Jai’s. We walked up to the first floor of my house. Reaching the top of the stairs I sucked back a breath as I saw my mother sitting on the kitchen stool. I never realised how much I missed my mum and home until now.
“Mum.” I choked out, it was quiet.
Her head spun around as soon as I spoke. Her eyes were darkened and she looked awful, I think I’ve put her through hell. Her eyes were shocked at my appearance.
“Carter.” She bellowed.
“Mum I’m so sorry.” I said, dropping Jai’s hand and running at her.
She hoped off of the stool and engulfed me in a massive meaningful hug. She was week, I feel really bad that I’m probably the one who has done this to her. After a few minutes we pulled away and stood in front of each other.
“I’m so sorry I’ve put you through all of this.” I said.
“It’s okay darling, I’m just glad you’re home.” She said smiling.
I smiled back at her, remembering Jai was standing in the room. I looked over to him and nudged him to come to me. He hesitated a little before he joined me. My mum didn’t rip his head off instead she apologised for what she said to Jai.
“I truly am sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.” She repeated over and over.
“It’s okay.” Jai smiled.
“Well I think I’m going to go and unpack.” I said. “Jai come with me?” I added.
“Yeah.” He replied following me up-stairs.
I dumped my bag as did Jai and sat down on my bed. Jai sat down next me and I rested my head on his shoulder. Jai lightly placed his hand on my bare leg and I placed my hand over his.
“Thank you for running away with me.” I said looking up into his eyes.
“It’s alright.” He replied.
We sat in silence for a while, just taking in the fact that we were finally back.
“What are we going to do if you’re pregnant?” Jai asked out right.
“Jai, I’ve thought about this and if I am, I’m going to find a suitable family for the baby.” I had thought about this long and hard and this is what is best.
“I think that’s what is best.” Jai agreed. “When are you going to tell your mum?” He added.
“We don’t know if I’m pregnant yet, and I still have to tell her I’m not a virgin.” I giggled lightly.
“Well I guess you should tell her that first.” He said.
“I’m going to tell her now; I may as well get it done.” I said standing up like I was on a mission.
I marched down stairs to find mum with a smile on her face and cooking dinner. I sat down on one of the stools and waited for her to turn around. Once she did, I knew she was ecstatic that I was home.
“Mum I have to tell you something.” I said.
“What is it darling?” She replied.
“Sit down, this is big.” I said.
She took a seat next to me on the opposite stool. I turned to face and sucked back a breath before telling her.
“When we were away we stayed in the bush in a tent, and well something happened.” I stuttered.
“You can tell me.” She said with a small smile.
“Okay well I don’t know how to say it, so um yeah I’m just going to say it.” I stampered over my words “I lost my virginity to Jai.” Oh god I just said it.
My mum’s facial expression was unreadable. Her eyes widened… oh god she’s going to kill me.
“Well.” She began extending the word. “I can’t lecture you because that’s when I lost mine.” She giggled.
“MUM, WHY DID YOU NOT TELL ME.” I laughed.
“Well, you know.” Oh I’m so thankful that my mum and I can laugh about these things. “And also Jai is a keeper.” She added.
“I know.” I smiled happily.
I hugged my mum and let her continue with dinner. I walked up-stairs and told Jai what mum said and he laughed along with me. Mum allowed Jai to stay over, they got along well, and I’m happy.
