Chapter 17- Why?

Jai’s POV

“Dude, seriously what are you doing here?” I quizzed to Beau as I chucked a hoodie on leaving Carter lying in the tent naked, man it was hard pulling myself away from her body.

“I came looking for you and I found you.” He smiled innocently.

“You stumbled on us when we were having fun, couldn’t you hear us?” I laughed slightly at what we were doing.

“So you became a man.” Beau teased.

“Yes, about 2 weeks ago to be exact.” I said precisely.

“You do realise Carter is only 15.” He replied.

“Yeah it was mutual decision.” I stated.

“And did you use protection; you’re out here in the bush.” Beau said.

I had to think for a second. Did we use protection? I couldn’t remember.

“Bro, did you use protection?” Beau repeated.

I could feel my stomach drop. My face got hot and I felt like I was going to explode. My mind wasn’t thinking straight. Oh my god I’m freaking out what if we didn’t use protection, what if Carter was… what is she is pregnant. If she is I don’t know what to do, I’m only 17.

“I don’t know man, I’m freaking out.” I said worried scratching the back of my neck.

“Come with me dude.” Beau said. I followed him into the bush.

We’ve been walking for about half an hour and Beau hadn’t said anything.

“Why did you bring me out here?” I quizzed.

“Because I need to tell you something.” He replied.

We came to a long log and sat down on it. I was beginning to get nervous because I had no idea what Beau was going to say. Has he done something bad? Has he hurt someone?

“So spill.” I hissed.

“You can’t tell anyone what I’m about to tell you.” He ordered.

“I won’t.” I replied truthfully.

“You remember my girlfriend back when I was 16, her name was Lacy?” He asked me.

“Yeah, you loved her.” I said remembering how Beau would never shut up about her.

“I’m telling you this because I see the way you look at Carter and the emotion in your eyes, you can tell that you love her to. Even if you’ve only known her for a short time, you lover her and she loves you, she gave you everything at the age that she is, that is risky.” He paused. “I loved Lacy so much and she loved me, she too gave me everything and we made a big mistake.” He added.

“What was the mistake?” I quizzed.

“We didn’t use protection and something happened. When I told her we weren’t protected she took a test and she was pregnant. She couldn’t deal with it and she left me, she felt it was better to raise the child on her own. I loved her, and she left me alone. I’ve never met my child all I know is his name, it’s Tyler and I already know that I will love him as much as I love her. The reason I haven’t had a girlfriend since then is because I’m still getting over Lacy.” He continued, wow he really trusts me. “I’m telling you this because even if Carter is pregnant, don’t leave her, she will need help, she’s so young and once you hold your child for the first time, you won’t be able to let go. Even if it gets too hard, don’t give up because Jai you are strong.”

“Beau… I’m just so scared.” I said my eyes filled with tears.

“Come here.” He said engulfing me in a hug.

I man hugged him back but still cried onto his back.

“I’m not ready to be a father. I mean I want kids but not now, I’m still so young, I won’t be able to handle it.” I continued.

“Jai, shut up! You are strong don’t give up, everything will be fine.” Beau said.

I pulled out of the hug and stepped back.

“Okay Beau, I won’t give up.” I assured wiping away a few stray tears.

We walked back to the tent to find Carter still in there naked. Control yourself Jai. I stepped into the tent and sat down next to her. I told Beau to wait outside because I was going to explain to Carter what might happen.

“Have you been crying?” Carter quizzed.

“Carter we haven’t been protected.” I came out with it.

“What?” Carter’s lip trembled. “Yes we have, I know we have.” She tried to change what I was saying.

Her hands were flying around. I grabbed them and slowed them down.

“CARTER STOP! We haven’t been protected, but no matter what happens I will not leave you!” I assured her bringing her into a hug. But she pushed away.

“NO! I CAN’T BE PREGNANT; THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING WHY AM I SUCH AN IDIOT!” She shouted.

She stood up and headed out of the tent, but I chased after her. I grabbed her arm and pulled her into my chest.

“Don’t give up, everything will be fine.” I said resting my chin softly on her head.

I looked over to Beau who was standing beside a tree. I smiled at him and he smiled back, like he was proud me. But Carter she was terrified.
