"So what are you late for?" Riker asked, shattering the silence that had fallen over the car as we drove. "Uh um... Job interview." I stuttered out, he may laugh at me if he found out what the job was. I hope he doesn't... "So what's the job?" ..ask.. Dang it. "It's um.. An audition. For a um movie, a musical actually."
Riker looked at me with a raised eye brow. "How come you didn't just say that? That's awesome!" He said excitedly. "Well...my friends don't usually think that's cool...they think it's 'social murder'." I explained, I couldn't do the air quotes since I was taking a rather sharp turn.
"Well I think if it's what you wanna do then there isn't a single thing anyone can do to stop you." Riker smiled, I always knew he was really supportive of people but we just met and he's supporting my dream without seeing if I'm actually qualified. I smiled and turned into the parking lot. I parked right up front and turned off the car.
I grabbed my bag from the backseat before turning to Riker. "Here's the keys, I'll call you when I need a ride okay?" I said handing him the keys, he didn't take them. "No, I think I'll stay. I wanna watch your audition." A small smirk spread across his adorkable face and I knew I wouldn't be able to say no to him. "Oh okay." I sighed as I got out of the car.
Riker and I walked into the theater where auditions were held and waited for my turn. They called my name and I went on stage. I did the whole questioning thing before I began.
"Okay, I'll be reading for the main character Emma." I said before taking a breath.
"I don't understand Brad! Why! I haven't done anything to you! I haven't said anything to you! But you still treat me like I've abused you or something!" I said dramatically, I faltered in a line. "Um, may I try again? I do better with a partner." The director nodded. "I'll do it!" Riker popped out of his seat and ran on stage holding my script.
"Okay, go again." The director said.
"I don't understand Brad! Why! I haven't done anything to you! I haven't said anything to you! But you still treat me like I've abused you or something!" I shouted, acting as though my emotions were getting the better of me.
"Don't you see Emma! You have! The way you smile, the way you laugh, it TORTURES me inside!" Riker said, his voice shrinking. "Cause I know... I know I'll never be good enough for you." He turned his head away from me and I then remembered to breathe.
The crowd of maybe 30 people who came to audition (this was only the one for the main characters Emma and Brad) they all stood up and gave a thundering round of applause. "Very good! Excellent! Now our choreographer is going to show you two Brad and Emma's dance and see how well you pick it up." The director said, a spindly woman came on stage and someone started music.
She showed us our moves and then it was our turn. She left the stage and the music started anew. Riker and I moved like silk together, smooth and no mistakes. The final move was us pressed against each other ready for a kiss. As we did that the theater once again erupted into applause. Riker and I pulled apart and did a bow. "We'll be in touch." The director said indicating our dismissal.
I snatched my bag and lead Riker out of the theater. We got into the car without a word but sat for a minute in silence. "I knew you were a good actor but that was... Whoa." I said quietly, he was amazing! Incredible! Riker smiled shyly. "Well you're pretty whoa yourself." He said before stuttering out. "I um.. Meant your acting. Your acting is um.. Whoa." He blushed, I stiffled a giggled and turned on the car.
We drove to a Jamba Juice nearby, we deserved a treat. Riker and I spent the rest of the day chatting at Jamba Juice, we're more alike than I thought.
Which may be a bad thing, their bus won't be broken forever.
