The next day was uneventful, nothing happened at school except daggers being glared at me by Brit who was on probation of the school, meaning if she did anything else wrong she'd be expelled. When I got home all I found was the guys icing their butts. Which I'll admit did lift my bored spirit a little. It wasn't it until the phone rang that something happened.
We were all sitting around watching tv when my phone rang, it was the casting director for the musical! I shot up out of my seat and answered it. "Hello?"
"Hi! Is this Emily?"
"Yes..." I said, trying not to sound excited.
"Great! I'm calling to ask you how could I get in contact with the guy you auditioned with? We wanna offer him the role of Brad." My heart sank.
"Um, I-I can tell him and I'll tell him to call you back. Is that the only reason you were calling?" I asked trying not to let him hear just how close to tears I was.
There was the sound of papers rustling. "Uuh.....yeah I think so. Well thanks for delivering the message for us. Good bye!" He hung up. I hung up too, I didn't know whether to run and hide in my room or punch something. I put my phone back in my pocket and went back to my spot on the couch. "Who was that?" Ross asked, readjusting his ice pack.
"It was.. For Riker, you need to call the casting director, you got the part of Brad." I said, sorta blankly. "I'll send you the number." Sending him the number before staring down at my phone, wanting it to ring and them to tell me I had gotten the part.
Once Riker had gotten the number he walked out of the room to call him back.
After ten minutes or so Riker came back. "So I told him I wouldn't take the job...." He trailed off. "Why?" I asked, I don't want Riker to miss out on a job. "Unless you got the main female role." He finished a smirk in his face. I puffed air out of my cheeks angrily. "What?" Riker asked, shocked by my less than electric response. "I prefer to earn my OWN jobs, thank you." I said, popping off the couch before turning and going to start dinner.
Not wanting to cook I just made up a sort of taco bar for everyone to make tacos for themselves. I didn't eat, Riker tried to pretend but he barley kept his eyes off me. I cleaned up my plate and went to my room to have a minute by myself.
I flopped down on my bed and screamed into my pillow. I can't believe Riker tried to buy me a part! I mean it's sweet and all but... I do want to get a part on my own talent, not as some buy one get one deal.
A soft knock came to my door as it cracked open. "Emily? Can I come in?" Riker asked from the door. "If you must." I mumbled into my bedspread. Riker came in the room and leaned against one of my walls. We sat in silence for a while before he spoke up.
"I won't take it."
"What?" I asked, startled and momentarily confused. "I won't take the job, not if you don't want me to." He repeated, looking at his feet. Mix matched polka dot socks, I had to restrain myself from laughing. "I want you to have the job. I do." I said, not sure if I was lying or being truthful. "I feel like I'm stepping on your toes. I didn't mean to try out, I was trying to make your audition better." He looked up at me. I sighed. "If they offer me the job I'll take it, you should take the part too." I concluded, wanting this all to be settled already.
"Sounds like a plan."
