It was one of those days that I didn't really have anything to do as my division's patrol was at night. Per Heisuke-kun and I's agreement, I was not to join them on any more night patrols unless I was instructed to. Not that I was particularly eager to, what happened last month made me want to steer clear of night patrols and any other nightly activity that required me to leave the compound. After everyone finished the breakfast I cooked up, I approached Heisuke-kun. "Hey Chiyeko-chan! Great breakfast as always!" "Arigato Heisuke-kun, you always know what to say to brighten my day" I smiled. "Well I'm glad to be of service. So was there something you wanted?" "Hai, as a matter of fact there was. I was wondering if you wanted to join me kimono shopping" "Kimono shopping? Why?" "It's just I'm getting tired of wearing and washing the same black kimono over and over again. I need some change that isn't a battle kimono" "That makes sense" "I know it's kind of a girly activity so you don't have to come if you'll feel embarrassed or something like that..." "Sure I'll come" "Really?" "Well you went out of your way to invite me, it'd be rude to decline your invitation" "I guess it would. Let me just go grab my money pouch" "Did you remember to ask permission?" "I'm not you Heisuke-kun. I asked for permission before I cooked breakfast" "Then I'll be waiting for ya out front" I went into my room and retrieved my pouch of yen. I then joined Heisuke-kun outside. "Time to go" We left the Yagi house and began our walk into the city. The kimono shop wasn't as close to the Shinsengumi headquarters as I would have liked, but on the bright side I got to spend more time talking with Heisuke-kun. When we arrived at the kimono shop, I handed Aka Tatsu over to Heisuke-kun. He looked at me confused. "So I can try on different kimonos?" "Oh, that makes sense. Wouldn't want your sword getting in the way of that" "Kon'nichiwa, how may Fabulous Fabrics help you today?" A store employee greeted us with a smile. "Ohayō! I'm looking for a new kimono. Something very different from this" "Okay! First, let's get you measured and then we will find you the perfect kimono!" "Okay!" I followed the woman behind a folding screen. I undid my obi and loosened my kimono so she could get accurate measurements. "Now I know what size you are, I'll bring out some different styles for you to try" "Okay, arigato" She bought out two short kimonos and two long ones. "Try these and see if you like them" She handed them to me. I went behind the screen and took off my kimono. I tried on all the kimonos, but none of them really spoke to me. I handed them back and received new ones to try on. Unfortunately, I didn't like any of them either so I handed them back. This process was repeated several times before she came back with only one kimono. "Given what you've declined so far, I know that this is the kimono for you" She handed me the kimono and I went behind the screen. I unfolded the kimono and gasped. It's beautiful...

It was two shades of pink in colour and harboured a beautiful pattern of flowers. It's perfect...! I wonder what Heisuke-kun thinks...I stepped out from behind the screen. "What do you think Heisuke-kun?" He stared at me with wide eyes which caused me to fidget uncomfortably as a blush began on my cheeks. "Heisuke-kun?" "Huh?!" His cheeks reddened as he came back to reality. "Y-You look great Chiyeko-chan!" "Arigato Heisuke-kun, I'll get this one" "Excellent" I changed back into my kimono and she folded up my new kimono and put it in a bag. I paid for it and she happily handed me the bag. "Arigato for shopping at Fabulous Fabrics!" "Gomen for all the trouble I caused..." I bowed after taking the bag. "Don't worry about it! We're here to help girls find their perfect kimono, no matter how long it takes" "Oh, well arigato" "We hope to see you again soon" We left the kimono store. "Arigato for coming with me Heisuke-kun and gomen that I took so long..." "It's okay. As long as you're happy, I'm happy. Which reminds me, go drop that kimono off at headquarters then meet me at the sweet shop" "Sure! I'll be right back!" "You're not even gonna ask why?" Heisuke-kun yelled after me. "With sweets I don't need to!" I yelled back before skipping back to headquarters. After hanging my new kimono up in my closet, I left headquarters once again and rushed to the sweet store. I found Heisuke-kun inside, paying the shop keeper. I called out to him when he had finished his transaction. "Oh Chiyeko-chan, you got here quick" "When sweets are involved I'll always get there quick" "True. Anyway, here" He handed me the bag of sweets he had just paid for. "Try one" "Okay!" I opened the bag and round balls of multiple colours greeted me. "I've never seen these before" "The shop keep says they're something new he just shipped in" "Well I'm always one for trying new things" I picked up one ball that was pink, blue and yellow in colour. I tossed it into my mouth and my eyes widened. "Wow! It just melts in your mouth!" The sweet only tasted of one flavour meaning that the different colours were for decorative purposes only. "That was delicious!" "Glad you like 'em because they're yours now" "Wait, you bought these for me?" "Hai" "I appreciate it Heisuke-kun, but I couldn't accept these" "You can and you will. It's a reward for doing so well on patrols" "If you insist" I gratefully accepted the bagful of yummy treats and the two of us began our walk back to headquarters. A few minutes later, rain began to fall from the sky. "It's raining? We should head for shelter to wait it out" "Instead of that, I challenge you to a race back to headquarters!" "Why?" "Because you must be able to carry yourself no matter what the weather" "So it's a training exercise?" "Exactly!" "Then you are so on" While everyone else headed for shelter, Heisuke-kun and I ran through the rain. He was currently in front of me. "You need to do better than that Chiyeko-chan!" "Just wait, I'll catch you Heisuke-kun!" As we raced, the rain got heavier. It's getting harder to see where I'm going-"Whoa!?" I slipped and let out a shout as I fell. My impact with the ground caused mud to splash onto my kimono. "Chiyeko-chan!" Heisuke-kun came running back and held out a hand. "Arigato" I took it and he helped me pull myself off the ground. "Well I'm definitely glad I bought a new kimono now" "Now that you're up again let's-?" "Head towards shelter and wait out the rain" I dragged Heisuke-kun under the protection of a shop. "Look at us, we're soaking wet" We sat down and watched as the rain poured down. Heisuke-kun sat cross-legged while I sat on my legs. "This is nothing to me-achoo!" "Nothing yeah?" I raised an eyebrow at him. "I'm fine" "Iie, you're not. You're cold. Come here" I pulled him towards me and untied his wet hair. "This won't help much, but it's something at least" I took out the cloth I always kept on my person and began drying Heisuke-kun's hair off. "I wanted to continue racing..." He pouted. "You're such a child sometimes Heisuke-kun" I sighed with a smile. "I am not!" "So what do you call wanting to do things when you're told not to?" "Rebellious?" "Hmm, true. But the way you do it is childish not rebellious" "I guess it is" He chuckled softly as a blush rose to his cheeks. He looked up into my eyes. "You're the only one who's allowed to call me childish" "Sure thing Heisuke-kun" I smiled. "Your childish secret is safe with me"
