(Mini) Chapter 7: Making amends

This'll be a really short chapter btw, hence the 'Mini Chapter' title. Sorry but I felt like it didn't fit in with the last chapter, the title is 'Nasty Surprises' after all and making up is not a nasty surprise. Anyway, enjoy and comment your feedback!

I laid on my side, tucked into my futon. Tears were rolling down the side of my face. They all revealed just how much they trusted me, just as I was starting to feel welcome I find out that none of them really trust me at all. That made my heart feel like it was being crushed. I let out a sob as more tears escaped my eyes. It's like there's a wall separating us...and I can't defeat it no matter how hard I try...A knock on my door brought me out of my thoughts. "Chiyeko-chan, it's me and Sano-san. Can we come in?" I made a noise that they took as approval as they slid my door open. I didn't turn to face them as they sat beside my futon.
"We're really gomen Chiyeko-chan..."
"We didn't mean any ill will" I didn't respond as my voice would give away the fact that I was crying. "You understand that everyone was trying to keep you safe?"
"Yeah, we don't want you to die because you're important to us, do you get it?"
"Are you sure that's not a lie?" I couldn't keep quiet after they claimed that. I sat up and hugged my knees to my chest. "Because if I was so important to you as you claim, you would trust me when I told you I would drop it. But did you do that? Iie! You kept warning me to keep quiet as if I was a stranger who was unfortunate enough to hear your conversation!" I buried my face in my legs as more sobs escaped my mouth. "N-None of you trusted me enough to keep what I heard secret!" I hiccuped. "I know that if I hear or see the wrong thing, I would end up dead! I don't want to die so I obviously wouldn't betray your trust like that, but you all believe I would!" Suddenly, I felt arms wrap around me from behind. My body stiffened.
"Chiyeko-chan, we do trust you" Heisuke-kun's voice was right behind me. "We don't want you to die and you'd just heard something that would give Hijikata-san a reason to permanently get rid of you" He tightened his grip around me. "We just panicked and for that I'm truly gomen, but we had to make sure that no one in that room would tell Hijikata-san"
"N-Nani...?" I hiccuped as I raised my head. Although, I couldn't look at Heisuke-kun as he refused to let go.
"Those words were less for you and more for us. The way we phrased them made them sound like they were for you, but we were just trying to make sure everyone understood that we weren't gonna tell Hijikata-san about what you'd heard"
"R-Really...?" I sniffled.
"Definitely"
"S-So...you do trust me...?"
"I trusted you since you agreed with me at the café we went to for breakfast" I turned my head to look at Harada and he nodded in agreement.
"I obviously wasn't with you at the café, but I've trusted you since you joined us"
"A-Arigato...both of you..." I smiled as I wiped away my tears. Heisuke-kun let me go and I hugged him gently. "You know I'd never betray your trust...?" I whispered.
"I know Chiyeko-chan" He rubbed my back as the last of my sobs left me. "I know" I let him go and smiled happily at the two.
"Arigato for telling me your honest feelings, I'm glad to know you trust me...And I'm gomen for storming off in the middle of dinner..." I looked down guiltily.
"Don't worry about it Chiyeko" Harada chuckled while he pat me on the head.
"Yeah, it's totally understandable. We're really gomen we hurt your feelings like that" I accidentally let out a yawn which caused both men to laugh. "Looks like someone's tired"
"Well let us get out of your hair so you can get some sleep"
"Oyasumi guys"
"G'night!" They simultaneously replied before leaving my room. When my door slid closed I lied down in my futon with a smile on my face. This dream is turning out better than I ever could've imagined. Were my last thoughts before sleep claimed me.
