February 1865
I woke up and began my usual routine which was get dressed, check if a letter had arrived for me and making the captains breakfast. I can't believe I've been with the Shinsengumi for a whole year now...time sure flies doesn't it? I reminisced on my time with the Shinsengumi as I made breakfast;
"I'd like to become a member of the Shinsengumi, if you'd allow it" I bowed after making my request.
"Raise your head child" I did so. "Do you understand fully what it means to be a member of the Shinsengumi?" His face had adopted a serious expression.
"Hai!" I nodded determinedly. "I'm prepared to give up my life in order to serve with you"
"Good answer" He smiled. "It'll be interesting to have a female among our ranks. I welcome you to the Shinsengumi"
I was accepted by Kondou-sama and joined the Shinsengumi.
I faced off against Okita-san again, but this time he used more of his sword skill. 'He could TRY and go easy on me considering I'm a complete newbie to sword fighting!' This time I noticed when my hands started to shake. 'Here we go...' I backed away from Okita-san before taking a deep breath. 'Something that makes me happy and calm...?' My parents smiling faces came to mind.
"You didn't close your eyes, you don't think I'm an honourable swordsman?"
"All things considered...Iie, definitely not. Maybe if you improved your attitude, you'd appear more honourable"
"I'm being honourable right now. For example, I'm holding back and not wiping the floor with you"
"Oh, how honourable of you(!)" Okita-san suddenly disarmed me and held his wooden blade in front of my neck.
"Whoops, guess I forgot to be honourable. Did you want a warning before I finished you off? Because in real life you won't get that" Okita-san smirked. "By the way, your sword was still shaking"
"Souji stop that" Heisuke-kun groaned.
"She started it"
"One: That's a childish excuse, grow up. And two: You started it by pointing out that I didn't close my eyes"
"Guys this is not helping Chiyeko-chan train!"
"Gomen..." I sighed. "I didn't mean to offend you. I'm sure you're a honourable and great swordsman"
"Look at that, you can admit when you're wrong"
"Iie, it's called 'being the bigger person'. You should try it sometime"
"I think I'll give it a whirl, but only because it'll make Heisuke stop looking at me like he wants to kill me" His face turned serious as he looked at me. "Gomen for provoking and making fun of you"
"Apology accepted"
...
"What if I asked you to call me without a honorific?"
"Okay"
"That's it? I don't have to convince you?"
"Nope"
"But don't you respect me?"
"You don't want me to answer that question" Everyone laughed at my response, even Saito-san let out a little chuckle.
"This girl can provide some seriously good entertainment" Okita-san chuckled to himself.
"Why do you respect Sano and not me?!"
"Because he's in a higher up position than me and he's older than me"
"So am I!"
"And he doesn't peek at girl's taking baths"
"That was one time! And it was an accident!"
"It still happened nonetheless Nagakura!"
"Getting jealous over Chiyeko-chan calling Sano-san without a honorific? Pretty childish Shin"
"Heisuke's got a point" Harada laughed in agreement.
"Damare!" Nagakura began stuffing his face with his rice while we all laughed.
...
"If you wouldn't mind, I would like to sample your breakfast"
"Ah Kuso!!" I jumped and somehow ended up falling forward.
"Whoa, careful!" Harada caught me before I could hit the floor.
"Daijōbu!?"
"Yeah, I'm fine Nagakura"
"Oh man, that was hilarious!" Okita-san wrapped his arms around his stomach as he laughed hard. "I love how the first word that popped into your head was a curse word" He chuckled.
"I'll show you a curse word..." I mumbled to myself as I stood up. I then turned around to find the culprit behind my fright. "I should've guessed..." Saito-san stood in my room, looking as stoic as ever. "I swear you're doing this on purpose now! Seriously, why can't you just announce your presence like a normal person?! And how'd you even get in here?!"
"I knocked on your outer door, but you didn't answer. I heard talking so I came to the conclusion that you were awake and let myself in"
"You don't just "let yourself in" to a girl's room! Sheesh, I swear you're going to give me a heart attack one day..."
...
"Sweets are the best!" I exclaimed happily.
"Nearly forgot about your addiction to sweets" Heisuke-kun chuckled.
"I'm not addicted! I just love love love them!"
"If you say so" He teased.
"Stop teasing me..." I put more Konpeitō into my mouth when an idea hit me. 'Time for a little payback'. "The dog's coming back!" I yelled.
"Nani?! Nope, I'm not getting my face licked again!" Heisuke-kun quickly jumped up and hid behind the bench. I burst out laughing as I watched this unfold.
"I was joking Heisuke-kun" I giggled. "Are you sure you "just wasn't ready" or is there a bigger reason behind your reaction?" I laughed as Heisuke-kun sat back on the bench and sulked while eating his Konpeitō.
"Didn't know you could be so cunning Chiyeko-chan..." He complained.
"Only when I need to be. Or want to be"
...
"Im glad you're my nakama Harada"
"Nice to hear you say that, arigato. I guess I'm glad you're my nakama too"
"What do you mean 'guess'!?"
"Haha, just messing with ya" He ruffled my hair and I playfully shoved him away from me.
"Harada! You've gotta stop doing that!" I moaned as I fixed my hair.
"Can't help it, gomen"
"You're not gomen"
"You don't know that"
"That smirk on your face tells me that I do"
