One week later

Heisuke's spirits appeared to have lifted ever since our night out together. Whenever he was around me, he would break out his usual goofy grin and seemed to have an overall more positive outlook on things. I could only hope that he wasn't putting on an act for my sake.

We had returned to the compounds after a meeting with Doctor Matsumoto to be met with a panicked Sanan. Not overly panicked, but you could tell that something was wrong. "What is it Sanan-san? Has something happened?" Heisuke asked with narrowed eyes.
"It would seem that a small group of furies have escaped the compounds"
"Nani!?" We exclaimed in response.
"I was so engrossed in my research that I failed to notice them until it was too late"
"This spells trouble..." Heisuke sighed.
"I would hope that my men would know better than to go on "murdering sprees", but I cannot say for certain that that isn't what they're planning"
"Chiyeko and I will go to get them to come back. I want you to stay here and keep an eye on the rest of the Fury Corps, if that's alright with you Sanan-san?"
"Hai, that is fine with me. Do be careful. If they have been overtaken by the madness then there's no telling what they'll do to you" For some reason, Sanan aimed the last part of his sentence towards me. The look he gave me as he spoke sent shivers down my spine. I didn't have time to question Sanan's warning as Heisuke quickly spoke;
"Right. C'mon Chiyeko!"
"O-Okay!" Heisuke and I turned and ran right back out onto the streets of Edo.

Thirty minutes later

"We haven't heard any screams yet..." I pointed out as we walked down the streets, listening for the slightest disturbance on this eerily quiet night.
"Yeah...I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though" Heisuke muttered.
"Right...Um, Heisuke? What will we do when we find them?"
"Hopefully, they're still sane so we can take 'em back nice and easy..."
"I sense a "but" coming"
"...but if they've gone mad then we'll need to take 'em out. For good"
"I really thought we were past this...Minna seemed to be doing so well" I sighed sadly.
"Same here. I didn't notice anyone acting any differently...Although, that in itself could've been a trick"
"That's a good point..." Suddenly, we heard two screams originating from the alleys on either side of the road we were currently on. "Oh no...!"
"I'll go left, you go right. If you run into the furies then yell for me, I don't want you facing guys like that on your own"
"Trust me, I don't want to face guys like that on my own"
"Here's hoping you won't have to" I nodded in response before the two of us split up. I unsheathed Aka Tatsu while I investigated the alley. Where did that noise come from? It doesn't seem like anyone's here...The deeper I went into the alley, the higher my feelings of uneasiness rose. Yet I still hadn't found a hint of another person in the alley, nor had I been assaulted by the overwhelming smell of blood. Okay, we definitely heard two screams and one of them came from this direction so someone just HAS to be here. I had been walking for a further five minutes when it happened.
I was suddenly seized from behind with one hand placed swiftly over my mouth and the other around my dominant wrist to stop me from swinging Aka Tatsu. "Mmhmhm!!!" Oh god, has Kioshi found me!? I struggled as best I could, but my captor was too strong.
"Someone's been a naughty girl..." A voice from somewhere in front of me stated maliciously. A figure appeared to have materialised out of the shadows and I was shocked to discover that it was a member of the Fury Corps.
"Mhm?"
"You're confused? Well, allow me to enlighten you. Sanan-san sent us out to do one thing and one thing only"
"And that is to give you a message" The fury holding me captive said. Why do I get a bad feeling when he says "message"...?
"He doesn't know why you drugged him, but you should pray that he never finds out" My eyes widened from shock. Dear god, he realised he was drugged...! Now I understood why Sanan had aimed his sentence at me, it wasn't a warning. It was a threat. The only thing that could make that scarier is if Sanan said the words to me himself...
"I hope we're clear on this" I nodded vigorously, clearly showing him I understood.
"Chiyeko!? Where'd ya go?! Shout if you can hear me!" Heisuke's voice seemingly came out of nowhere. It sounded like he was close by.
"Looks like we're out of time, although there is just one more thing we need to do before we go..." Nani...? Before I had the chance to register what was happening, I heard the metallic hiss of a sword before blood rose up my throat. I looked down to see the tip of a katana had pierced through my chest, the point of the sword's entry being my back. Unsurprisingly, it quickly became much harder to breathe. "No bad deed goes unpunished after all"
"What's going on over there!? Chiyeko?!" I heard footsteps quickly rushing towards us.
"If you ever drug Sanan-san again, you'll be a dead woman" The fury behind me whispered softly in my ear, contradicting the great weight of his threatening words. He removed the blade and I collapsed instantly. "Tell no one what was said here" He warned before leaving with the other fury.
"Chiyeko!?!" I heard my name called out, his tone of voice sounded desperate. Unexpectedly, the volume of his voice was quiet. It sounded like he was thousands of miles away from me, even though I knew that wasn't the case. "Chiyeko, you all right?! Chiyeko!" Following his cries came the sensation of my body being lifted off the ground, I could feel that my arms and legs had become limp at some point. "Chiyeko, please say ya can hear me! Look at me! Just do something!" He was shouting, for some reason that I could tell. I tried calling out to him, but my voice either couldn't or wouldn't come out. Instead, I coughed out a large amount of blood. "Chiyeko!" All of a sudden, I faintly felt the sensation of the wind brushing against my body. Huh...? Where...? My eyes were unfocused and refused to clear leaving me with an incredibly blurred view of the world around me. It was no wonder that I couldn't make out where we were. A strange haze seemed to move into my field of vision making it impossible to catch a glimpse of anything. I couldn't even make out Heisuke's face, despite how much I struggled to see through the haze. Heisuke, I...I'm sorry...My eyes closed as I didn't have the energy to keep them open any longer. "Hey, wake up! Please! Chiyeko!" Heisuke's tone was filled with desperation and I felt his arms tighten around me accordingly. I'm...I'm sorry for being so baka...Darkness seized its chance as it consumed me until I could no longer feel anything.
