I slept in the next morning. Having trained in a different way for the past two days made me tired enough to sleep in, even though Shouto tried to wake me up at our usual time but he ended up with a pillow in his face and a hiss in response. He knew that when I did that, I was usually in a bad mood, because not two seconds after seeing my face, he spun around and left the room without another word. I let out a chuckle remembering his face. I sat up, rubbing my eyes and scratching my tangled hair, letting out a teary yawn in the process.
I remember walking home late last night. It was already dark, so I used a little flame to see where I was going. Plus, it put a pretty atmosphere in the gloomy street. When I arrived, I yelled that I was home, not that anyone else would care really, but it was just to reassure Shouto that I was home. I found him in the kitchen pouring me some food, which I took and we talked about our separate training sessions as I ate, followed by me going for a quick shower then us going to bed shortly after.
I swung my legs over the side, yawning one more time before getting up. I walked past our mirror in the bedroom, taking a look at the monster that I usually looked like in the morning. My red hair was everywhere, like it was caught up in a storm, and my eyelids were half open with my sleepy red eyes peeking through them. I wore an oversized shirt, one I stole from Shouto with my pink panties barely in view. Even though I'm a girl, I wasn't really into the things normal girls were, like the colour pink, dolls, and other things, but I couldn't help but have one or two things that reminded me of my gender. I never admitted it, claiming to be a tomboy, but I couldn't help being that typical girly-girl from time to time. I got dressed into something comfortable, which was large jumper, which covered my bottom half so I didn't bother putting on shorts, tied my hair up again, and went downstairs for something to eat. This time, Shouto wasn't in the kitchen like yesterday, but that means I could eat my large breakfast without having someone look at me like I was some animal. After finishing the last few bites, I wondered back upstairs, taking a couple books out of my bag to finish my homework. I lay on my bed, books and pens surrounding me, and plugged myself into my phone, playing calming music to keep me relaxed and focused. As I wrote out answers, my legs started swaying in the air, occasionally gliding against each other. At one point, I neglected my work, closing my eyes and listening to the soft music.
I imagined myself high up on a building, my mask and costume on, my hair slowly blowing in the breeze. My eyes set upon the horizon, watching the sun rise. It's colours shone over the darkened city, lighting it up slowly but beautifully. I breathed in and out, feeling the warm air enter and leave me. My mind felt at peace. I glanced down once again at the glowing city. My job is to make peace and feel heavenly when watching my hard work pay off.
"Homura," came a muffled voice, feeling a soft presence touch my shoulder. My eyes opened wide, glancing to the side and meeting Shouto's face. "Are you okay?" he asked, still muffled. I took out my headphones, clearing my head from the clouds.
"Yeah, sorry, I got distracted by the music," I said, quickly finishing off a couple bits from my questions, then closing the book quickly. I sighed deeply, relieved of having finished the homework on time. "What time is it?" I asked, glancing out the window that stood behind our beds. Our room was quite large, as well as the window. Like ourselves, our room was split in half, each side representing our personalities. Shouto's side was simple but traditional. I liked it, but mine was all over the place. Although it still had the same traditional designs as Shouto's, I covered my side with posters and frames I collected that reminded me of something specific. For example, there was a framed photograph of a landscape of Tokyo, taken from a high building. I had a small photo of me and Shouto when we were younger, and we were both doing a silly face at the camera. He had his tongue stuck out with one of his fingers pulling his eye down, and I was mid way of throwing my hair in the air, looking crossed eyed. Shouto always told me to take it down as he was 'embarrassed', but he loved that photo as much as I did. I also had small figures of little animals and characters that I admired. It looked like a mess but it was my mess. We each had our own bed, desk, wardrobe and a single long window. It was quite large, taking up most of the wall, and you could see layers of trees and houses, but mostly the skyline, which I could spend all day watching the sun rise and set.
"Around noon," he said, following my gaze, but turning around. He went to his wardrobe and changed into training clothing, similar to yesterday. "I'm going to train a little more," he said, tidying his shirt, "you thinking of training?" he asked, glancing at me. I stretched from having been so long in the same position, and stood up.
"Yeah, I'll probably go back to the gym again," I said, going to my wardrobe.
"Alright, I'll see you soon, but don't be late again," he said, then left the room. I playfully mimicked his mouth movements, then quickly changed into my workout clothing. I wore a baggy vest and tight shorts, both of them black. I grabbed a sandwich, eating it quickly, having a glass of water before leaving the front door. Just as I left, I ran into my sister Fuyumi. She held several groceries.
"Homura," she gasped, "where's your brother?" I gave her a shrug but picked up some groceries from her arms.
"He told me he's going to train again," I said, reentering the kitchen with Fuyumi close behind me. We were around the same height but I believe I was slightly taller than her.
"Again?" she sighed, placing the bags on the counter, "I wished he didn't train too much. He's putting too much pressure on himself." She then turned to me, eyeing my outfit, "You shouldn't work yourself too hard either, Homura," she said, looking worriedly into my eyes. Everyone in the family knew of what our Father's true intentions were, and they all feared for the sanity of both of us. I gave her a warm smile.
"Don't worry, sis," I said, lightly taking her hands, "we're fine. I promise you." Fuyumi played the mother role in the family, and always cared about her sibling's well-being. Although she did seem over the top, I personally appreciated her actions. She sighed again, but smiled back.
"If you say so," she breathed, lightly squeezing my hands. "Don't be back too late, or your dinner will get cold. Oh, and thank you for helping me," she added as I began to leave the kitchen. I gave her a final smile before leaving the house. I stopped outside the house, and looked up. I saw a large cloud in the clue sky. It looked like it was taking over, being all large and mighty. I then spotted several smaller clouds, scattered around it, some in a bunch. It reminded me of the broken but sturdy family of mine. We felt intimidated but we still held together. I smiled slightly as I warmed up my hands. Fuyumi played a good part for me. She was a very nice sister, and I admit, I stuck with her more than Shouto, probably because she was a girl, but I loved her a lot. As my hands lit up, I started to wipe my mind clean, and concentrated all my power on my Quirk. I shot upwards, letting the wind mess up my loose hair. After reaching a certain height, I started flying towards my gym.
