We were called into our father's office again in the morning, telling us to wear our uniforms.
"As of today, we will go to Hosu City," declared our father, "if this incident with the Hero Killer continues, then I'm sure he'll appear in Hosu City again. We will go to Hosu for some time on a business trip and continue your internships there." He proceeded to go to the door of his office, signalling us to come with him. As we took the elevator down, me and Shouto exchanged looks. Even though he was a scumbag, we admired the judgment and instincts he took. As we rode to Hosu City on the train, our father would continue to test us, giving us more lectures and making us answer questions. We arrived at the city at night, and stayed in a private complex our father owned.
The next day, dressed in our costumes, we patrolled this city. We noticed our father was glancing around the streets, his eyes peeled for the Hero Killer. I continued to practise my Quirk over the costume's lines, concentrating on those parts and happy that the material kept me cool. We patrolled the whole day, getting into the night.
Suddenly, a large explosion set off. At first, I thought it was Bakugou for some reason, but when I turned around, I noticed heavy smoke rising from a couple streets away.
"Shouto, Homura, there's trouble! Follow me!" announced dad, running down the street. We glanced at each other before running after him, "I'll show you what it means to be a hero!" As I frowned at how cocky he was being, I noticed Shouto wasn't next to me. I glanced around and saw him on his phone.
"Shouto, what's wrong?" I asked, stopping as I saw the concern on his face.
"It's just his location," he mumbled. I raised a concerned eyebrow and glanced at his phone, seeing a message from Midoriya. Well, it was just a map with his location.
"Don't look at your phone, look at me!" shouted our father, but Shouto turned around and started running in the opposite direction, leaving me with our father. "Where are you going, Shouto?!" he yelled.
"An alleyway at 4-2-10 Ekou Street," Shouto yelled back, "take Homura and show her what you were going to show the both of us. If you guys finish what you're doing or find any free pros, send them there! I'm leaving you both to take care of the trouble. I'm sure you'll be able to resolve it quickly. Besides, Homura's more trained with her fire more than I am." I blinked several times in confusion and shock as I watched my brother leave. I glanced up at dad, seeing him staring at Shouto in anger, but his eyes soon relaxed and he looked down at me. He stood there silent, and I began to feel nervous. He later gave me a small smirk.
"Come, Homura," he said, putting his large hand behind my back, "it's time you understand the ways of being a hero with the strongest element." My eyes widened, and I felt a sense of hope in my heart. He was suddenly treating me so much differently than he usually did, but I didn't stop to question it. We both ran down the streets towards the commotion. "Homura, fly to catch any villains from a better viewpoint," he commanded. I nodded and used my new boots to shoot controlable flames under my feet, hovering higher into the air. I glanced around, still moving forward. So far, I could only see scared civilians. We turned a corner, and I spotted something.
"There!" I said, pointing forward to catch my father's attention. I saw a couple trying to get away from this... creature? Wait... a Nomu? Was this the same one? No... it's smaller, and a different formation. But... that means it's still powerful.
"Homura! Burn it with a low but deadly temperature with me!" yelled dad from the ground. Before the monster reached his arm out, both me and my old man set it on fire, engulfing the creature entirely. "I do not know who you are, honoured elder," said dad, making me glance down. I noticed he was looking forward, and I caught the sight of an old man with a hero costume on. "But leave the rest to me and my daughter." My father walked forward towards the old man and the couple, gesturing me to hover by his side.
"Seriously?" said one of the couple, staring at both me and my father, "why are you here?"
"Isn't it obvious?" grinned my old man, "it's because I am a hero!" I sighed softly at his gloating and hovered by the side of the couple.
"Are you both okay?" I asked, landing on the ground next to them. They smiled at me, but I could still see terror on their faces.
"Y-yes, thank you so much, young hero," they said. I smiled kindly at them, and gestured them to move away.
"Everything will be alright," I said, "move as far away as you can from the fight, and try and find others to stick with. Stay together!" They thanked me as they took off. I turned back around to see my father slightly smiling at me. I could hear the shrieking of the Nomu, and me and my father turned to it.
"Even though I used a lower temperature as a warning, this is the first time anyone's been able to stay conscious after being on the receiving end," mumbled my father. I rushed forward but keeping my distance from the Nomu.
"Dad, this is the same type of creature that attacked us at USJ," I warned, "this one will probably have different Quirks, and they're almost indestructible!" As I said this, flames shot out from the Nomu's body, heading towards me. Since me and my father were both immune to any other flames, we stood and took it like normal air.
"It seems to have absorption and release, huh?" mumbled my father. As the Nomu leapt up into the air, I watched my father set a bright flame, one that could kill anything. Before it went to the creature, tentacles seemed to appear from its mouth. Before I could warn my father, the old man shot forward at an insane speed, knocking the tentacles away, and knocking the Nomu unconscious on the floor. "Huh, you're not bad, honoured elder," admitted my father as he put his flames out. The old man got off the Nomu, and looked my way.
"Is this your daughter?" he asked, pointing at me. I nodded and smiled.
"Homura Todoroki," I said, bowing slightly. He smiled but we heard a couple more explosions up ahead. Is there more? What's going on?
"There should be a lot of heroes gathered over there," mumbled my father, "it's been at least two or three minutes, but even though they're all gathered there... good grief!"
"Let's restrain this guy quickly and turn him over to the police so we can go help!" suggested the old man. I watched my father give a look of concern, then spoke up.
"Leave that villain to my sidekicks," he mumbled, honoured elder, go now to the address I'll give you. I, Endeavor, will be sufficient support for those over there by myself, showing my daughter what being a real hero is like." My eyes went wide as he spoke, but they soon fell focused, slightly honoured that he's even mention me in his little speech.
"Young Todoroki," said the old man, startling me.
"S-sorry, yes," I said, turning around. He looked up at me with this focused look. I felt a little uneasy. It looked like he was studying me for a long time.
"I can see you'll be a great hero," he said, smiling at me before leaving. I blinked a couple times, unsure of why he would randomly say that, but I couldn't help but break a smile. If I see him again, I'll thank him.
"Homura!" shouted dad, starting to run down the street.
"R-right," I said, setting my feet on fire again to hover alongside my father.
"Fly higher!" he commanded, and I did as he said. Flying over the obstacles, I gained a clear view of the fight below. A Nomu, almost like the one who fought All Might at USJ, was surrounded by tired heroes, all of them shocked at what they were fighting.
"Down there!" I yelled to my father, and he immediately reacted. Seeing the Nomu behind a hero, his arm stared to rise, but luckily, my father punched him away. I came further to the ground, glancing around to make sure everyone was okay.
"Endeavor!" they yelled, their eyes extremely wide. The Nomu skidded back, and saw its arm click back into his original formation.
"They can regenerate, huh?" mumbled my father, and proceeded to grasp the Nomu's head. "Homura, if you want to learn to control your blue flames, watch me!" he yelled, referring to my first match in the Sports Festival. My father's flames turned blue as the heat started to rise, completely annihilating the Nomu's head. "Carbonised cells cannot regenerate!" declared my father, turning to me, "if you want to use your blue flames, you'll have to use them carefully as they can easily kill anyone!" I listened to his worlds, and nodded. I glanced around once more.
"Is everyone alright?" I asked. They all stared at me.
"Wow! It's Homura Todoroki, from the Sports Festival!" they said, but they nodded at my question.
"Look out!" shouted someone, making me look up. A winged Nomu carried someone unconscious in their claws. I began to hover off the ground, but my father stopped me.
"Hold on," he mumbled, rising his arm up to stop me, "those heroes with Quirks that are not effective against the villains, go to the Ekou Street, District 4 to help there!" I smiled at his rare moments of having a kind heart.
"There's a villain there, too?" they asked.
"I don't know, but I'm counting on you!" he said, and turned his attention to the flying Nomu, "Homura! On my mark!" I hovered near him, understanding what he wanted to do. We had practised this move before when I was little, but we stopped after he became more and more demanding towards me and Shouto, but now was a time to use it. We both shot forward, him on foot with me hovering behind. He created a ball of fire, shooting it towards the Nomu who moved out of the way. "Now!" he yelled, sticking his arm out. Without delay, I landed on his large hand, and as I did, he threw me like a human ball. This was to create insane speed for me, using my feet as an extra boost. I came extremely close to the flying Nomu, and as soon as he turned around, I created a large spear, injecting it through his eye. However, he didn't go down, but I saw the person it was holding, fall down to the ground.
"Catch him!" I yelled, and my father was quick to act, catching the victim with his arms.
"Follow him, Homura!" he yelled at me, "this is your chance to be a hero! I'm close behind you! Don't look back!" he yelled. Without thinking of the dangers I could go through from following this creature, I did so anyway. Since it was injured, it was flying slower, letting me chase it easily. Whenever I tried to attack like my father, it seemed to dodge the attacks I made. Getting frustrated, I began to fly faster, trying to use my hands like my father to burn its head off. However, before I could touch its head, it turned around and grabbed my sides, ripping into my skin. Clutching my teeth in pain, I continued to attack and struggle under its grasp, casting fire all over us to maybe damage it further. As we tumbled through the sky, I noticed we were heading for a group of people.
"Look out!" I yelled, struggling under the tight grip. Getting closer, I started to recognise the group.
"Homura?!" I heard Shouto yell, and I saw him with Midoriya and Iida, and a few other people. Before anyone could react, the Nomu released its grip on me, sending me colliding into the ground, tumbling over a couple times away from the group. The Nomu then caught Midoriya in its clawed feet, taking him away with it.
"Midoyiya!" I yelled, trying to stand up but felt my sides wet with blood. I clutched them in pain, but with all the adrenaline pumping through me, it was probably worse than this, so I tried to ignore it. I shot my hand up, sending fire towards the Nomu but it started to flap its wings hard. The wind the creature was creating was making it very difficult for me to control my fire properly. Suddenly, I then noticed the Nomu stop flapping its wings, and started to drift towards the ground near me. I watched in confusion, trying to create some fire to catch Midoriya as he fell. Then, out of nowhere, a red eyed man came up beside me, holding a knife. In horror, I stopped moving altogether, making the fire disappear from my palm. The crazy guy stabbed the Nomu right in the brain, killing it instantly, and sent all of them crashing to the ground next to me. Everyone stood still, our eyes glued to this man.
"This is all.." he growled in the scariest voice I've ever heard, "to create a more just society." The man took out his knife from the Nomu, and seemed to struggle to get up, holding Midoriya down.
"Why are you all standing around in a group?" called the familiar voice of my father. He began talking with the others but I was too far away and my eyes and ears were focused on this terrifying man. I heard Midoriya struggle under his grip. I tried to get up and help, but the pain in my sides prevented me from moving too much. I felt both sides, both equally pouring with blood. On the side of my belt was a temperature button, letting me adjust the cooling system throughout my costume's material. I managed to set it lower, trying to almost freeze my wounds. However, with a low growl, the man stood up, letting go of Midoriya. He dropped the mask that covered the top half of his face, letting drool come up from his crooked mouth. My eyes widened in horror at this sight, my body begging me to move away, but it's like I was stuck to the ground I lay on.
"You fake..." he growled, his eyes set on my father. I felt the most awful shiver run through my body. "I must make things right... Someone must be dyed in blood... I must take back what it means to be a hero! Come! Try and get me, you fakes! The only one I'll let kill me is the true hero... All Might!" The blackening aura that surrounded this madman made me want to crawl in a hole and shake with fear. Everything about him terrified me. Even the pain in my sides couldn't compare with the words I was hearing. However, his knife fell to the ground, and he stood completely froze in place. His eyes were white as sheets and his mouth hung open, still letting drool spill out. I watched, from the corner of my eye, everyone stand together in disbelief, Shouto and Iida falling to the ground. Midoriya's eyes were petrified, his pupils like mirrors. He was as frozen as this man, except I could see Midoriya shaking in horror. No one spoke or moved for a couple of minutes, until I let out a groan of pain. The adrenaline had gone, so the pain struck me all at once.
"T-Todoroki," stuttered Midoriya, stumbling over to me. He saw my sides, and called the others over. Shouto was the person I saw first, his face inches away from mine.
"Homura, what happened?!" he asked frantically. I gave him a weak smile, slapping him lightly against the face, but let my bloody hand slide off his cheek.
"D-don't leave m-me alone with that m-man again..." I managed to breathe before my vision went black.
