After the parental incident, Doug and Evie never returned to Dwarf Street again, though Denise and Doug's 13 year old sister Diamond did visit time to time, Denise recommending Evie some prenatal vitamins and teaching her about foods to eat and not to eat, which was greatly appreciated. Evie now had a slight baby bump, which she was very sensitive about due to her fear of being fat, though Doug always told her that she would look beautiful no matter what, but it wasnt that obvious as Evie always had a small figure, courtesy of the lack of food on the Isle, and the bump was easily coverable. Doug and Evie werent planning to tell the VKs until her second trimester, when the chances of miscarriage would be way lower.
Doug and Evie were still going on with everyday life, other than trying to help her pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness and nausea around food, they still met up with the VKs and their partners every day, still went about their work and still went for the occasional award shows, balls or parties they were invited to.
Right now, they were at work. At least, Evie was. It was morning, and Doug had set off to the mines to collect the profit from his fraction of the mine while his dad and uncles were still asleep, while Evie stayed at her office, drawing up designs and looking through the latest trends. Apparently, fingerless gloves were in season due to Evie, a fashion icon and celebrity, and Mal, Queen of Auradon, donning them during the Royal Cotillion, though that was years ago.
Suddenly, the bell of Evie's private office rang, and Evie looked up from her computer to see who she had not expected at all. The woman had the signature ebony short hair, red, blue and yellow dress, and skin as flawless and bright as the sun. Her name, was Snow White.
Evie's eyes widened. Snow White? She had been in Auradon for about a decade but not once had she come into direct contact with Snow White. The woman who caused her to spend her whole childhood in the Isle Of The Lost, the woman who her mother hated so much, the woman who her mother tried to poison to death, the woman who her mother spent every night's bedtime story time ranting in pure rage about, and most importantly, her step sister.
Snow White seemed not to notice Evie's wide eyes, gaping mouth and pounding heart. She smiled sweetly and walked up to Evie. "Hi, im Snow White. I would like a gown to be made for Cinderella's upcoming ball?"
That shook Evie out of her trance. Evie stood up wobbly, before forcing a nervous smile. "Hi, im Evie, er, of course i would love to make a dress for you, take a seat."
Snow White nodded and obliged.
"So..." Evie said, pencil in her hand and sketchbook in front of her. "Have you figured out what design you might like?"
Snow White shook her head.
"Okay." Evie nodded slowly. "Lets take a look in the fabric and colour section then." She said, getting up from her seat and beckoning over to racks in the other corner of the room full of colours and fabrics.
"Do you have a choice of colour?" Evie asked as Snow White flipped through the different colours.
"Well," Snow answered, in her angelic voice. "I would like to go with my signature colours."
Evie nodded as she walked over to the rack with red. There was blue at the right and yellow at the left.
"Okay..." Evie said. "How about the fabric? Any preference?"
Snow shook her head no.
"Okay." Evie bit her lip.
Snow sensed her nervousness and put an arm on her shoulder.
"Its okay, Evie. I trust you. Ill just leave you to design the dress and you can send the design to my castle?"
Hearing that, Evie heaved a sigh of relief, hands leaving the tuile fabric and going to her chest. She had already had a design in mind for Snow, just that she was afraid Snow wouldnt like it.
"Okay." Evie nodded.
"Lets return to the desk and talk money?" Snow said kindly, leading Evie to the desk.
Evie sat down graciously.
"So... when do you need the dress?" Evie asked, sketching a rough idea of Snow's dress in her notebook.
"Just around a few days before Cinderella's ball. You know the date right?"
Evie nodded, "Yes. Okay. So this is the rough idea. The sleeves will be puffed, ill add lace if you want, can the dress be made of tuile? Is sapphire blue fine? I-"
Snow put a soft hand on Evie's. "I trust you."
Evie looked into the black orbs that were filled with sincerity and gave a nervous but genuine smile.
"So how much is it?" Snow asked.
Evie contemplated for a while. A dress like that could easily cost up to $5000, which Snow could surely afford, but she found herself saying $2000.
Snow smiled and nodded, taking out her purse and putting a wad of money inside an envelope before handing it to Evie.
Evie accepted it graciously and put it at the side.
"Its settled then?" Evie stood up and prepared to lead Snow to the door, but Snow wouldnt budge.
Evie gulped, her heart pounding in her chest furiously. Snow walked up to Evie and led Evie to a nearby couch.
"Im actually here to talk about Grimhilde."
Evie blinked. Even an idiot could figure out that Snow recognised Evie, but Evie thought Snow wanted to ignore her identity and that Snow hated her. Now...
"Im sorry." She immediately blurted out.
Snow sighed and shook her head. "Its not your fault. You werent even born yet. You dont know the whole story of Snow White And The Seven Dwarves. Mom was actually a great mother. She kissed me goodnight, read me bed time stories, baked me cookies, all the things a mom would do for her child. But one day, she overheard two soldier's conversation that i was going to beat her in looks one day. Thats when she changed. She absolutely despised me, and went cold, ignoring me and calling me by my full name, instead my her nickname for me, Snowy. When my dad passed away, she locked me in the cellars, where i had mice as friends and not even a speck of sunlight. I worked for hours and hours scrubbing and dusting. But the mirror still said i was fairest of them all. You know the story after."
Evie sat there, absorbing all the information. After a few minutes, she finally spoke. "Oh, yea. Mom is and still is a great Mom... to me... but... er..." she stumbled over her words.
"Its okay Evie." Snow said comfortingly. "Is Mom doing well? I still love her... after..."
"Er... yes! V- very well..." Evie said, cursing herself when she stuttered.
Snow smiled again. "Thats great... Now, another thing..."
