Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald were some types of jewels, but most importantly, key parts of Evelyn Grimhilde's engagement ring, well, at least, he hoped it would be.

That's right. It was the day. Doug was gonna propose. To Evie. The love of his life.

What could go wrong? A lot of things. Rejection, humiliation, losing the loves of his life, including the baby, were just a mere few. That, was exactly what was going on in Douglas' mind. But he had to do it. He wanted to.

It was all planned out. There royal gardens were specially prepped, with fresh blooming flowers and trimmed bushes, the blue sky had made way even for the special occasion, the birds recited special choral pieces, as they lined up in formations across the top of the gazebo to be used for a proposal.

Doug didn't invite many people. Ben and Mal weren't invited, neither were Jay and Lonnie, or Jane and Carlos. It was just his princess, and himself, just like their first date, except, there was a change of location, to ensure their friends, who he was certain were hiding behind any suitable location, to catch glimpses of their date, would not find out about it.

The clock struck seven, almost causing Doug's heart to rip from behind his sternum.

Evie strolled into the gardens, nonchalant of everything that was happening. She wore a beautiful bubble dress made of blue, with red roses in a row beneath the collar, as she hummed quietly, hand on her belly endearingly.

At last, she spotted her boyfriend, clad in exactly what he wore on their first date, with bunches of red roses in his possession.

She grinned, hurrying over to him. "What's the occasion?" she asked care-freely, pregnancy brain at its best.

Doug didn't blame her, as he knew she would remember it if she wasn't in her current state, not that it was bad. "Its our anniversary." He replied, leading her outstretched hand to the picnic mat filled with food.

Regret, remorse, panic, they all flooded Evie's face at once, as she realised what an important date she had forgotten. "I- I'm sorry- I totally-"

Doug smiled, assuring her that it was alright, as she heaved a sigh of relief. It was quickly replaced with sighs of ecstasy, as she dug into the food he had prepared.

They chatted and joked for the whole night, as they dined heartily, with the occasional teasing. To Doug, it was pure bliss. However, when the food had disappeared one by one, he knew it was time. The time that would decide his fate.
