As soon as Evie and Doug stepped out of the car, into the castle and then into garden, their friends popped out of bushes even before they could analyse their surroundings.

"SURPRISE!!!" Mal, Ben, Lonnie, Jay, Jane, Carlos, Belle, Adam and a few other friends of the group bellowed as they started walking towards Evie and Doug. Evie was so shocked she nearly fell over if not for Doug's arm around her waist.

"Do you like it?" Mal asked, bouncing Baby Ian on her hip.

Evie grinned and looked around. There were pink streamers hanging from the gazebo where all the food was laid. Belle's roses were freshly grown as they danced softly in the wind and none of the children were fussing, which was an all time first.

"Oh. My. Fairy-godmother!!! Thank you M. And the rest of you too." Evie cried, embracing Mal in a bear hug, though her fingertips could only slightly meet, courtesy to her little princess.

Doug grinned and nodded in appreciation towards everyone else.

Evie started tearing up. Her brown pupils shone with liquid as she wiped them away with her sleeve without hesitating, afraid that anyone would spot it.

Her efforts were futile.

"What's wrong, babe?" Doug asked, being the first to notice.

Mal immediately looked up from a cooing Baby Ian and gasped while the others started to notice.

Awkward tension followed, with nobody knowing the perfect respond that wouldn't set the mother-to-be on fire.

After a while, Mal started to laugh. It started with a giggle, then a laugh, then a full on guffaw. Everyone looked at the best friend with curious yet cautious eyes, including Evie.

Soon after, everyone started to understand the saying - "laughing is contagious".

Evie stood there, baffled. Unsure of how to respond, but soon broke into a giggle before following the suit of her friends.

"Sorry..." she grinned sheepishly. "My hormones havent been cooperating with me nowadays... and i-"

"Naw... we all had that." Lonnie grinned, cheeks still flushed from all the laughter as Mal nodded in agreement.

"Alright, alright." Jay stepped up. "Enough tears. Let's party!"

And with that, the group dug in to food as they joked, while more and more guests arrived, including Audrey and Chad bringing their little princess Aubrey, many of the group's friends or even acquaintances, along with many other descendants of Princesses and Princes they weren't close to.

There were music and games in the palace gardens, accompanied by fun and many children playing and adults chatting merrily, and was the epitome of joy.

However, the highlight had yet to come.
