you don't own me - g-eazy
| don't tell me what to do, don't tell me to say |
(highly recommend + put on repeat)jaylee's pov
my head was rested against the uncomfortable oak wood headboard, my body comfortable resting in my bed.
I held my phone horizontally in the palm of my hand as my eyes gazed into the bright blue light of my phone screen.
daily, I watch videos of underrated kids who have a high class of talent that has been unnoticed-unheard.
their vocals smoothly transition from low notes to high notes, something I wish I could do.
as the video continued to play out loud, my eyes traveled to the ukulele that was sitting so unbothered in the corner of my room.
memories began to flash roughly in my mind, some so vivid that I could picture them perfectly.
the world around me became muffled as I focused in on the thoughts that were swarming my head.
my bedroom door swung open causing my eyes to shift away from the essay I had been writing.
he walked in, throwing his backpack to the side of the room while letting out a heavy breath.
a small smile had appeared onto my lips as a light giggle left my mouth being fully amused by his actions.
his body plopped down onto the white furry bean bag next to my bed, putting his hands behind his head as his eyes stared at the ceiling.
"rough day?" I questioned as my eyebrow perked upwards.
he took in a deep breath as his eyes turned to me, then he exhaled it. "I got fired." his eyebrows quickly raised up, then down.
my jaw dropped slightly as I fully sat up to get a full view of him. "are you serious?"
"yup." he spoke with energy, but his body language was bummed.
"well, what happened?" I asked as I criss-crossed my legs, listening to what he had to say.
he licked his lips in a nervous manner. "my manager said I haven't been focused."
letting this news process, my teeth bit onto my bottom lip. an uncomfortable nervousness began to spiral in my stomach.
"if mom finds out-" I began to speak hesitantly.
his eyes looked towards me. "I know." by his tone of voice, I could tell he was already worried. "she'll kill me."
his eyes shifted back towards the ceiling.
I pursed my lips together, being unsure of what to say; not wanting to drag it on.
"will you play for me?" he asked lightly, not taking his eyes away from the ceiling.
a soft smile spread across my lips, my cheekbones defining. "yeah."
