saturday nightI shut the door to my car, taking in the sight of a bright bon fire on the beach. I've never actually been to one before, even though it's one of the only things kids do in this town.
i put the baby yellow colored towel over my shoulder so I wouldn't have to carry it as my eyes stayed pinned on the bright orange flames that made the beach around it glow.
about a hundred kids, maybe even more, were scattered along the beach-all off doing their own things with different groups.
I started walking, letting the warmth of the sand press against the bottom of my feet. my mouth was formed into a small smile, being excited to be surrounded by good vibes tonight.
the sound of laughter coming from teenagers who are having nothing but fun filled my ears, along with music coming from the speaker that someone had brought.
as I continued to walk closer and closer to the bon fire, I could see one group of peoples heads turn all towards me.
not being close enough to see, I couldn't tell who these people were. something told me they couldn't see who I was either, because they wouldn't stop staring at me.
my eyes squinted as I got closer, focusing more and more on who these people were. I kept my head facing the ocean a bit, not to make it obvious that I was looking at them too.
one of the guys cupped his hands together, "yo jaylee!" he shouted out, trying to get my attention. the other guy lifted his arm in my direction, waving his hand at me.
my ears immediately took note of the familiar voice that I could easily tell belonged to grayson, now all making sense-the other must be froy.
I lifted my arm, waving back at them feeling a dart of excitement feel like it had stung me, creating an energy to flow through my body as if i were on a sugar rush.
I started to sprint in their direction, smiling wider than ever for a reason I can't explain. I guess being in this atmosphere for the first time, seeing my friends, and knowing I was about to have fun excited me.
once I had gotten close enough to them, grayson bent down, picking me up from my knees.
"grayson!" an energized scream left my mouth as I hung over his shoulder, watching him spin me in circles.
I laughed hard, feeling it flow out of my easily from his actions as he set me back down onto the sand gently.
my eyes took a second to look at him, thinking he's crazy for wearing shorts in this kind of weather.
he was wearing grey sweat shorts with a black hoodie. his hair fell in front of his forehead while it looked like it was supposed to be tucked back into the hood.
looking away, I bent down, picking up my towel from the sand. "you made me drop my damn towel." I pretended to be angry as I shook the sand out of it.
