jaylee's pov

my hand gently pushed the car door shut as my eyes stared at the glimmering neon lights that lit up the darkness of the night.

"you brought me to a fair?" I asked, even though it was right in front of me.

i turned my attention back onto ethan as he met me on my side of the car. "it's a place to spend money on you for prizes, and show off my skills, so why not?" he shrugged, letting his lips curve softly upwards.

my eyes stayed on him for a second, studying his facial expressions.

after what happened in the car, I can feel myself being hesitant about him.

after I told him that I was surprised he hasn't used me yet, it was silent the entire car ride here.

It's really made me take a step back and face reality on what his intentions really could be, but I swear when I'm with him, it's almost like it's impossible that he could be lying.

lightly, my lips shaped into a soft smile, "lets go." i spoke with a tone of excitement laced into my voice.

after hearing my words, his perfectly aligned teeth revealed themselves.

my hand grabbed onto his wrist, pulling him towards the entry way of the carnival.

almost immediately, my eyes landed on familiar faces. my feet started to slow down the pace of walking as I turned my head to the left, seeing more familiar faces.

I turned on my head, fully facing ethan. "is this a school carnival?" my eyebrows narrowed, fearful of social engagement due to the fact that everyone pisses me off.

if this is a school carnival, ethans gonna be talking to everyone here. it's gonna make me look awkward for not knowing people, and not even wanting to get to know people for that matter.

"no?" he spoke as if it were a question, giving me a look of confusion.

my eyes shifted around to look at some of the people passing by us. "then why is everyone here?"

a light laugh escaped his mouth as he looked down. "everyone comes here to hangout, jaylee. it's the only place to get fucked up since there's no parties." his eyes shifted back up to me.

my eyebrows raised once the last sentence left his mouth, then they narrowed again. "you're not drunk, are you?"

he exhaled a deep breath, putting his hands into the pockets of his black denim jacket. "do you really think I'd drive drunk?"

my bottom lip popped out as I shrugged. "I mean..." I dragged out my word, letting him get the hint that I wouldn't be surprised.

his jaw dropped, but a smile was formed over his lips. his eyes grew wide as he looked at me in shock. "I would not drink and drive, especially with you in the car with me."

a small laugh left my mouth, finding it amusing how defensive he was getting. "I don't know, ethan." i shrugged, making him think I don't believe him.
