jaylee's pov

my eyes focused on the video that was playing on my phone screen, trying to focus on learning different songs... considering I have nothing better to do.

ever since ethan left last night, I've had an inner motivation to mess around and play the instrument a little.

the glare from the screen reflected off my glasses, making it difficult for me to focus.

my eyebrows narrowed as I pressed pause on the video, then turning off my phone completely and tossing it onto my bed next to me.

both of my hands replaced onto the ukulele that was in my lap, adjusting them to play.

unexpectedly, what sounded like a pebble, hit the window on my door causing my breath to hitch. my eyes widened as I aimed my attention at the door, then stopping all my movements.

I waited a couple of seconds in case it were just some type of bug, but then it happened again, even louder this time.

I put down the small wooden instrument, then started walking towards the balcony door.

my hand reached for the metal handle, which was colder than expected due to the cold weather outside, then opened the door.

my eyebrows stayed narrowed as I walked out onto the balcony, looking down into my backyard.

"oh wow." ethans deep voice spoke as he broke out into a laugh, putting his fist to his mouth. "I wasn't expecting that."

both of my hands rested onto the railing as I looked down to him, "expecting what?" I asked out of confusion.

"you to be in your pj's." he chuckled humorously again, causing my energy levels to rise from the sound of his laugh-almost like a rush.

"it's ten at night on a saturday, what do you expect?" I tilted my head slightly to the side, defending myself.

"damn, jaylee!" he put his hands up in a defensive manner, "I just trying to say I wasn't expecting you to look that adorable right now, but by all means don't take the compliment."

heat grew into my cheeks as my tongue licked the inside of my mouth, trying to resist a grin, but it didn't work.

the corner of his lip curved upwards, knowing that he got to me. "you coming down here or what?" his arms crossed as his voice sounded rough.

my lips rubbed together as I lifted my head, looking into the dark sky that was spread across the town.

I tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear as I looked back down to him. "give me a second." I told him.

he leaned his back against the tall oak tree as he shrugged. "I can wait."

a soft smile spread across my lips as I turned around, stepping my feet back onto the carpet in my room.
