work song - hozier
(highly recommend + put on repeat)jaylee's pov
raven's jeep came to a complete stop in the parking space belonged to by the school. only a few seconds after, turned my head to the left feeling ravens eyes stuck on me, waiting for me to answer her.
"well?" her eyes widened being impatient, knowing she was going to get it out of me.
I groaned quietly as I turned my head back towards the front window of the car. "I just don't know what I'm supposed to do." my lips pursed together as I kept my eyes forward.
"don't know what to do about what?" she asked in a confused manner, anxious to know what's going on in my head.
I took in a deep breath, then exhaled as I rested my elbow onto the side of the door-holding my head up with my hand. "everything." I mumbled quietly.
"jaylee." her hand grabbed onto my shoulder, causing me to turn my head towards her. "I can't help you if you don't explain things to me."
I swallowed the air stuck on my throat, then looking down to my hands in my lap.
her hand let go of my shoulder, turning her body to completely face me. "you have your damn hand wrapped in tape, jaylee. what's going on?"
my teeth gently bit onto my bottom lip, being unsure of what to tell her, or how much to tell her.
abuse is a serious topic to bring up, who knows if she would tell anyone and make things worse.
also, I know raven isn't fond of ethan. I don't want to lose her as a friend because she's pretty much the only one that I have. if she found out about ethan and I, she could easily top talking to me.
my fingers began to lightly play with each other as i contemplated what my next words were going to be.
"raven, what I'm about to tell you is serious. I'm telling you because I trust you." I told her as I turned my head back in her direction, catching eye contact with her. "please don't take advantage that."
"what is said between us, stays between us." she told me with a pure voice, and by the look in her eyes, I could tell that she was telling the truth.
my chest inflated as air filled deep inside of my lungs, followed by a heavy exhale. "sammy has been abusing me," I started off, then looking down to my hands again. "pushing, slapping, choking..."
"what the hell, jaylee! you need to tell someone." her voice became defensive of me.
"I know." I mumbled in a low tone. "but..." I hesitated, knowing I had to explain deeper.
"but what?" she asked concerned. worry was threaded into her tone of voice.
"all of this is happening for a reason." my eyes finally looked back up to her. I could feel my nerves shaking slightly, scared of how she was going to react.
"what's the reason?" her eyebrows narrowed, not understanding what could be causing this.
I pursed my lips together as I stayed quiet.
"because I'm seeing ethan."
