"True that, ain't anyone that I've ever met comes close to what you've been through, and I've been around for generations" Carman says to me.
"Thanks guys, but as sappy as it sounds I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you guys" I say to them with a half smile on my face.
"Right back at you" Carman says taking another bite into her sandwich. We continue to talk about everything that's been going on, Carman reports to us that the portal is on twenty-four hour watch and Conner says that everything at the packs are under control. Beth fills us in on more about her research with Emma and Justin; they'd found some other portals around the world too.
"But get this guys, you all know of the big fiery pit?"
"Yeah that's been burning for years"
"Yeah that, well it's actually the actual gate to hell" Beth says with a proud smirk on her face.
"Called it," I say as I take Conner's drink and sip on it, he looks at me and glares.
"You're lucky that you're close to me"
"Mentally or physically?" Ronny says looking down then slowly looking up with widened eyes.
"Nice one" I say as I laugh, Conner growls and Ronny looks down I stare at Conner and playfully slap his arm.
"Come on guys one more class before we can go home and prepare for a war" I say to them, as I get up we all separate and head towards our classes Conner holding my hand and swinging it between us.
"Hey so I've been thinking"
"That's a first" I joke making him stop and glare I smile and giggle lightly, "What about?" I ask him.
"About after school, I mean what'll happen to us? Will we all still be together? Or would you go to a university or collage?" he says, it saddens me that he has fear laced in his eyes thinking that I'll move away from him.
"I don't know, but even if I did move away it would never be far, I'd probably find an apartment in the city or something" I say to him, he sighs in relief and smiles.
"Good, because I had a dream that you moved really far away and I woke up in a cold sweat" he says hugging me, I laugh at him and pat hit back.
"It was just a dream, come on" I say to him as we walk into class. It's silent as we sit down in our seats; no one talked at all in class, which is strange considering that our class is the most disruptive. The bell summons us to leave and the teacher stays at his desk, we get up and take our bag from either the sides of our desks or the back of our chairs before we all walk out.
"Miss Monrow a word?" the teacher says, his face didn't lift to meet my gaze, hell he didn't lift his face at all throughout the class, I turn to Conner telling him to wait up outside for me and he nods his head, walking outside the room.
"Yes?" I say taking a step towards his desk, his glasses slipping from his nose slightly as he smiles.
"Can you remember what I told you?" he says to me as I frown my eyebrows and take in a breath, my gut telling me that something bad is about to happen. I push it aside.
"What do you mean Sir?" I ask him as he scoffs and moves away from the desk and closes the door.
"In the hospital"
"I'm sorry but I don't follow" I say to him, I gulp down hard watching his head turn to the side as he pushes up his glasses from his nose.
"You're a smart girl, think" he says, his arms folded behind his back, I look down at my feet and chew the side of my mouth.
"I don't know, what do you mean sir?" I say to him, he drops his eyes and takes off his glasses, picking up the corner of his checked shirt to clean them.
"Sir?" I say taking a step forward, I feel my gut drop when he looks at me, his burning eyes staring at me.
"You're . . ."
"Yes, now can you remember what I told you?" he says to me, I sit down and look at the floor thinking back to the time he visited me in the hospital, I went through everything like it was only yesterday before my mind stops on the note that I found at the side of my bed once I got back from visiting the little girl.
"Not, not to be afraid of the dark?" I say looking up at him, he smiles and sits down next to me.
"What do you mean by that? What's so bad about the dark?"
"Everyone has a darkness that boils inside of them, yours is just that little bit stronger and can end up controlling you at times" he says to me, I stare into his eyes, they where like mine only a burning red and orange.
"I don't understand your riddles can you just tell me?" I say to him frowning a little.
"Think about it, Conner's darkness is his weakness, Beth's is her family and James is himself – But you? Yours is more physical," he says darting his eyes to my hands. Questions run through my head making it pound against my skull as I run a nervous hand through my hair.
"How do you know about me?"
"We're somewhat the same"
"How? Who the hell are you, you're an absolute mystery to me besides the fact that you're my teacher"
"Oh I'm not your teacher, he's just a host"
"What?"
