I don't really need to look her much further
I don't wanna have to go where you don't follow
I will hold it back against this passion inside
Can't run from myself there's no where to hide.
Nova quietly sings along to I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston, grabbing a pink paint pin and shaking it. She then pops the cap off, and squints her eyes, beginning to trace the drawing she had made on a new pair of all white Vans she bought.
It was finally the first day of spring break, there wasn't much of a weather change, so no one really felt different from winter, nor fall.
Many different emotions were running through Nova's body right now; there was excitement, nervousness, happy, scared, and just a tad bit of regret. Tomorrow would be the day she got to go to New York to finally meet up with her family again; she was terrified.
What if they don't like me anymore?
What if they don't remember me?
What if they've changed?
What if they think I've changed?
Oh for fucks sake Nova, they're your family.
Nova sighed, picking up the blunt from out the ashtray beside her, taking a long hit. She was sitting outside with her feet in the pool, using the paint pins Chris had given her a while back. Nova thought it was crazy how it had been almost six months since their first date, time really did fly.
The past two weeks went somewhat to what she expected. Being that she had really had her mind set on going to New York for spring break, she had to repeatedly ask her uncle for her grandma, his mother's, number. She guessed that if her uncle got annoyed with her he would just give up the number, in which he did.
Nova didn't think she would have to go through all that just to get her grandma's number. It's not like she could've gotten it from India or Quincy, they barely kept in touch with her.
From there on, Nova contacted her grandma, who was in an amazed utterly shock finally hearing her favorite grandchild's voice after so long. Nova didn't expect her to be so happy, It was only three years. Next was her yaya, who basically had the same reaction as Nova's other grandma. All three women were extremely emotional; so we all know how each phone call went.
Nova guessed it ran in the generations of the women in the family; some emotional ass females.
The sun was beginning to set, leaving the sky in a beautiful arrangement of orange, yellow, pink, and purple scattered across the sky. Nova enjoyed the view very much, finding both the setting she was in, and the weed in her system, very nerve calming. She was home alone right now, everyone else was out at dinner celebrating Tory's 46th birthday; Nova didn't want to go, and quite frankly, she didn't have an option on if she wanted to go out or not.
After smoking the blunt, leaving nothing but a small bud, Nova stood from her seat, drying her feet and calves off before cleaning up her paint pens, deciding to finish the pair of shoes in a few days, which is when she would be back in Texas.
