When I was little we would play soccer in the back yard
The big pine tress as our goals
We would run around and around
We were soccer buddies
When I was younger we when hiking
I had fun climbing up hills and down valleys with you
We were hiking buddies
Then you learned how to surf and taught me too
Wading out into the cold ocean smiling
We were surfing buddies
You bought me some goggles, snorkels, and fins
And took me out to look at fish
We were snorkeling buddies
Then we had a sailboat
You showed me the ropes and taught me to race
We were sailing buddies
I looked up to you as a kid
You and my big brother
I wanted to be like you two
The way you could play instruments
As well as code
While still enjoying the outdoors
But then I grew older
And somehow we grew apart
I stopped being called your buddy
I was too busy for that
And it seemed like you were too
But now we both have time
And we are buddies one more
We are hiking buddies
Sailing buddies
Archery buddies
And many more
You are my buddy
I love you
I love you dad
