Chapter EightI sat on one of the chairs at the first row across the ticket booth in the train station. The train would arrive at four and I'd be seeing my daughter again. My phone beeped, announcing a text message.
'We'll be there in twenty.' My mom texted and I smiled looking at the screen of my phone. The only thing that felt right then was the fact that I’d be having my daughter in my arms again.
'Okay, I'm already here... Say hi to my baby :)' I replied and returned my phone in my pocket. After a while, it beeped again and I checked who messaged me.
'The boss is furious! >_<” Genie texted and I frowned. Why was he mad? He should be celebrating for getting rid of me. Then I realized that maybe he didn't remember everything he told me last Monday, and he was clueless as to why I resigned all of a sudden. I went in the office yesterday to give him my resignation letter and luckily he was not there so I just left it at his table. He must have been nursing a bad hangover thus his absence. I took advantage of that and gathered my things and bid goodbye to everyone.
'Lucky you :)' I texted back,
'Hell yeah! Thank you very much, now he's snappy and it's getting annoying. Hmmp.' She texted back immediately and I chuckled and hit reply.
'I'm sorry. I think I'm responsible about his outburst? Anyway, good luck!' I hit send and waited for my message to be sent. Not a minute after, my phone beeped again and this time it was from Paul.
'Hey! We're hanging out on Saturday. You should go, or else Jas will go in your house uninvited, she said that!!' He texted and I smiled. My colleagues were sweet and really friendly it was a waste but I couldn't work there now that I was aware of how Nate really felt about our little reunion. His words floated in my mind again and I shrugged it off.
Genie texted again but I was not able to check it because I saw my mom and Nath checking out from the train. I ran towards the exit door of the train platform and Nath jumped in glee upon seeing me. I hugged her and spun her twice. She giggled as I kissed her loudly. I missed her sweet voice.
I set her down and kissed her again.
"Hi mommy!" She gave me her toothy smile and I patted her head. I turned to my mom and kissed her cheeks.
"Hi mom, I missed you." I said.
"I missed you too. Let's get going. I'll cook you your favorite lasagna!"
"Oh, yummy! Can't wait!" I laughed and Nath mimicked me.
"Ooohh, yummy, can’t wait!" Nath echoed as she skipped beside me. I smiled at her sweetly.
I slid in the driver seat after I buckled Nath at the back seat, mom sat shotgun and buckled her own seatbelt. I revved the engine and we set off.
"I'm sad to hear that you resigned on your job, Jane. What happened?" My mom asked conversationally.
I smiled at her and returned my attention back to the road. "It’s okay mom, there are some misunderstanding with the boss, and I’ll just have to look for another job."
She frowned and I'm sure she was about to propose again that I should just work at the company she was working at.
"I'm gonna be okay, mom. I promise." I smiled reassuringly at her before she could start and she snapped her mouth shut.
