Chapter Twelve
"Mommy! Let's go!" Nath shouted from the door and I quickly took my shoulder bag and keys from the table where I placed it earlier.
"Hi, Angel!" Connor grinned and pecked me in the cheeks. He was carrying Nath in his arms and I smiled at the both of them before locking the door behind me and we made our way to his car.
"Thank you for coming with us, Connor." I smiled as I slid on the seat beside him and buckled my daughter at the back with her iPod plugged in her ears. She' was watching The Little Mermaid on it as usual.
"It's okay. Nath needs a family day once in a while, and I'm free until five, so no worries." He revved up the engine and we set off.
Bless him he's so thoughtful, I thought to myself.
We arrived in the mall after the thirty-minute ride and Nath was grinning from ear to ear. We were going to watch The amazing Spiderman, eat lunch, and stroll around the mall. I took Nath's left hand and Connor took the other one then we walked inside the mall. Many people glanced our way and murmured at their companions.
"They look cute."
"The parents are young, and the kid is so cute"
A smile made its way in my face and I gazed at Connor and Nath. Amy's words flashed in my mind: "So, what about you and Connor?" I remembered when she said that at the club.
I glanced at Connor who was laughing at something Nath pointed out. They looked cute together, it was clear how much Connor adored my daughter and that tugged something inside me. Connor looked up at me and gave me a heartwarming smile. Looking at them, I had this feeling that told me this was right. This was what I had been looking for, but despite that, why was it hard for me to just admit it and go on with it. This current in my life was just too strong I felt like would be swept along and there'd be nothing left for me in the end. But that was life right? In the end, you'd be the one to lose, so you have to play it right. Play your cards right. But what if life was playing with me too?
Nate's face flooded my mind.
How could I think about him when I'm with Connor? I was acting like a bitch right now.
"Hey, what flavor of popcorn do you like?" Connor asked, breaking my internal struggle and I realized that we were already at the cinema.
"Uncle Connor, I want those gummy bears!" Nath tugged at him and pulled him towards the candy area and I shooed them, plastering a cheerful smile in my face.
"I'll take care of the tickets you go buy her those gummy bears and popcorn." I said and he just rolled his eyes. They stalked off and I fell in line. There were still at least six people in front of me. The cinema was quite packed with families and couples.
"You two are perfect." An old lady said behind me and I turned to look at her, a little bit startled. It was always a wonder for me how older people gather enough courage to just butt in some other people's lives like it was the most natural thing in the world. Go figure.
"Excuse me?" I asked politely and she smiled adoringly at me.
"Your husband is a sweetie." She smiled and I giggled, well, what else could I see and besides what she said was quite funny.
"He's just a friend of mine..." I explained and she looked confused but shrugged it off.
"You'll make a perfect couple. Is he your boyfriend?" She said making me chuckle. Didn't I just say he was just a friend?
What a nosy old lady.
"Oh, really, just a friend of mine. He's kind and sweet though. He volunteered on coming with me and my daughter." I said. I didn't know why I was explaining myself with this old lady, but hey, it gave no harm.
