Chapter FifteenNATE'S POV
I watched her subtly as she collected the folders on the mahogany table at the center of the conference room. Her brows were knitted together and her pink lips were set in a grim line. What is she thinking about? I know I've been an ass to her the whole day, but the truth is, I didn't know how to approach her at all. She stilled and turned at me, I quickly diverted my gaze towards the projector sitting innocently at the table.
"Mr. Hughes, I guess its okay now if I look into my calls?" she asked sarcastically and I refrained myself from snickering, she's mad. I nodded as she whipped her phone out from her pocket. Her frown deepened and she called someone. I should stop observing everything she does! I mentally scolded myself and tried to concentrate on rolling the blueprints.
"What's wrong?" I heard she said then paused as she listened to the other end of the line. "What's wrong with Nath?" She asked worriedly and my head snapped on her direction. I didn't know why but it's like a knee-jerk reaction for me but the first person that entered my mind was that little girl from the park. Her green eyes and black hair and the way she smiled, it all mirrored her.
"Why can't you talk clear? Tell me what's wrong with Nath! Calm down!" she said with a raised voice as her whole body tensed. I wanted to go to her and envelope her with my embrace just like how I used to do six years ago. I shook my head and tried to divert my attention. But the name Nath really bothered me, I could feel something was wrong and I didn't like the edge I feel.
I heard the thump as she dropped the papers and it scattered on the floor. I hastily strode towards her.
"What's wrong?" I asked, something's up. A tear fell from her eyes as her lips trembled. She ignored me.
"You... You're saying that you lost Nath?" Someone lost this 'Nath'? I was so intrigued about this Nath and what was her relationship to Jane? As far as I remember, she's an only child, maybe her mom remarried or something.
"Yes. Please do. I'm on my way." She said as she ended the call
"What's wrong, Jane?" I asked and something inside me is bugging me to ask her who was that Nath she was talking about. Was it possible that she was referring to the same Nath that I know? I wiped the tears the kept on falling from her eyes and she blinked at me.
"Hey... You can tell me. I'm here." I said quietly, stroking her arms soothingly. I could remember vividly how she relaxed to me when I do this.
"Nath is missing." She said between sobs. My heart leaped on my mouth. It's impossible right? That we're thinking of the same person? But why does my heart weighed heavy all of a sudden?
"Who's Nath?" I finally asked because I needed to know whom she was taking about. And who was missing.
"I have to go. I really have to go." She said and I nodded. My mind racing making it pound on my head.
"Right. Let me fix all of this, I'll drive you." I said as I started gathering all the scattered papers. Damn these stupid papers!
"No!" She yelled and my head snapped to her. What?
"Why?" I asked as I stood up and towered over her.
"You can't." She said again. Why? Is she hiding something from me? Is there something she doesn't want me to learn? Then that little girl's face flashed on the back of my mind. Is she?
"Don't bother yourself with my affairs." She turned away but I grabbed her arm, effectively halting her. She's escaping me. I know she's hiding something, we're history so what's the point of hiding something from me, unless it's related to me.
