Chapter Five

"Jane! Kill me you're taking forever! I swear, if you don’t get here in a minute I'll drag you myself in there whatever you look like!" Amy yelled exasperatedly from the living room of my apartment complex. I snickered and checked myself one last time in the vanity mirror of my bedroom.

I stared at my blue eyes that had lost its life back when I was seventeen, and my smile that was pasted in my face, but it wasn’t like how my smile looked like back then. Okay, I looked presentable enough, with my three inches stiletto and sparkly blue strapless mini dress, accentuating my figure in the right places. But it meant nothing.

There was a part of me that was missing.

A place I wouldn’t dare explore right now or else I’d breakdown when I had avoided crying for years now. But whenever I was in the brink of remembering that missing piece, my eyes would always start burning and my heart would just start clenching.

"Are you not coming or what?" Amy entered the room with a slam and she stopped abruptly, looking at me from head to toe, then she grinned widely.

Leaning a hip on the doorframe and crossing her arms over her chest, she grinned widely, "Whoa! An angel in Prada! Let's break some heart sweetie. Let's go!" she grabbed my hand and dragged me to her red Volvo. She looked really good herself; she wore a dress that was shorter than mine, exposing her perfectly tanned legs. Her gold shimmery Jimmy Choos just finished the looked along with her silver bangles and silver hoop earrings. She didn’t look slutty at all instead she looked sexy.

"So, what is the company where you were employed?" Amy asked conversationally without taking her eyes off the road, I sighed inaudibly; we had already talked about this.

"It's dreamscape, an architectural firm at Nottingham." I said noncommittally and gazed out the window.

"Is that the large firm that designed that globe in Royal Mall? Who's the owner, again? I don’t you mentioned it." She asked turning left at the Bristow highway, and gave me a sideway glance.

"I haven't met him yet. The HR interviewed me last Monday and called yesterday, asking me to start effectively tomorrow." I explained while rearranging my black locks that fell in a fashionable manner in my chest.

"Good luck to that, Jane." She smiled at me and returned her attention back to the road. Not long after, we arrived in the nightclub where we would meet Connor and Jake, Amy's current boyfriend. We parked near the entrance and went out. Connor was waiting at the entrance and beamed his killer smile when he saw us.

He has brown hair and black eyes, dimple on his left cheek and he has the body built of an athlete because he loved to workout. If he wasn’t on duty, it was either he was crashing at my apartment or he was on the gym, lifting weights. We met him in our university days and we had been friends since then. He was a resident doctor at Nottingham Metro Hospital.

“Hey, beautiful ladies!" He hugged Amy briefly then hugged me, lingering for a while. I just laughed because he was always like that; you’d just get used to it and would not think much of it.

"You're so pretty, Angel." He complimented as he pecked me on my cheek. I shoved him playfully and not surprisingly he didn’t even budge.

"So as you, Connor... Thanks for coming with us..." I said smiling sweetly at him and we heard Amy making a gagging noise, for that she earned our attention.

"Gag me! Stop snogging lovebirds!" Amy mocked as she ushered us further inside the bar.

"Where's Jake?" I asked when I noticed that I haven't seen him yet. We stopped in a circular table at the right far corner of the club. I sat down beside Connor, unwinding my shawl around my shoulders and placed it beside me together with my bag and Amy sat across from us.
