Chapter 38

Days have passed too quickly and it was already December, we have been in Clayton for two months already and things were just fine. It was like a peaceful night before a storm, you wouldn't know that it would rain the next day but the sky was unsettled, I felt unsettled.

The job at my mom's working place was good and the people there were all friendly, they were all sweet and they reminded me of Genie, Jas and the others a hell lot, they reminded me of Nate. I sighed and absent-mindedly stirred the steaming coffee in front of me as I slumped on the chair at the kitchen. It was a chilly Sunday morning, mom was out with her friends, I heard they were going into a hot spring or something, I didn't know, not that I didn't care, it was just that I wasn't interested.

I was carefully taking a sip from my cup when Nath pounced on me making me sputter the hot coffee, I hurriedly wiped my mouth and my now stained PJ's. "Baby, mom is drinking her coffee... You should be careful..." I reprimanded softly but she ignored me, instead her eyes were shining with excitement and I smiled as I remembered what made her like that.

"Let's call him!" She tugged me and I followed inside our room, the coffee forgotten.

I went straight at my old study table and flipped the laptop open, rebooting it, "Alright, don't be too excited." I chuckled as she bounced on her feet excitedly and waited for the laptop to start. I opened 'Skype', scanned the contacts and when I found his name I clicked 'video call'.

After exactly five rings, he answered.

"Good morning, sunshine!" He chirped as the video refocused and he appeared in the screen, he looked tired with bags under his eyes and his disheveled hair, it was obvious how many times he ran his hands through it. He must be so tired.

"I missed you, Uncle Nate!" Nath practically shouted as it shrilled in my ears. I sat on the bed, watching them talk. At least twice a month, they would talk for hours until Nath get tired and that was the only time they would hang up.

His soft chuckle resounded, "I missed you too, kiddo... How have you been?" He asked as he looked at her with his soft emerald eyes, those eyes that I loved so much.

"I'm perfect! I'm going to skate on the 6th, we're going to have a show, and mommy said that I dance beautifully, I wish you can see me too..." She said and Nate's smile faltered a bit, I could guess how much he was missing his daughter, probably too much.

"How I wish I can be there by the 6th... I will try my best but I can't promise..." He said his voice was a bit hoarse, was he sick. Was he stressing himself too much, he should rest at least six hours a day he must not overwork himself.

Nath pouted, "I want you to be there." He smiled sweetly at her.

"Let me see your pretty smile, princess, you shouldn't pout like that, you look great when you smile..." Nath smiled, "...that's much better, and it feels good to smile, right?" He said,

She nodded her head enthusiastically, "Do you want to see me dance?" She asked and Nate bobbed his head.
