Chapter Eleven
It was almost a month since I started working here in Dreamscape Architectural Firm and I'm enjoying it so far. I walked inside the firm and was welcomed by the warm greetings of my colleagues. I walked inside my cubicle and gazed at the picture in my desk. A picture of me, Connor and Amy, I didn't get my daughter's picture displayed because, literally no one knows here I'm a single mom. I tried putting it up but it only raised questions and I didn't want to lie so I just have to keep it away from curious eyes. A smile made its way in my face when I remembered that Connor was hanging out with Nath today. He was so sweet and he really loves my daughter. He'd make a good dad, but not for my daughter. No, I wouldn't burden him with responsibilities when he could enjoy his life with a beautiful and unloaded girl. I love Connor and I didn't want him to have regrets in his life in the future.
"Hello, Earth to Jane!" Jas flicked her fingers in front of my face and I realized I was spacing out. "Thinking of a man, eh?" She snickered and I chuckled. I arranged the pile of documents in my desk and placed it in the corner.
"Good morning too, Jas." I smiled at her and she raised her eyebrow at me.
"What?" I asked, perplexed. She sat on my chair and crossed her legs and she looked at me under her black-framed glasses (I also learned that she owned quite a few of frames).
"I want to ask you a favor..." She whispered and I was intrigued, so I walked nearer to her and nodded, urging her to continue.
She cleared her throat, "You know, the corporate party tomorrow..." She said shyly looking everywhere except me.
"Yes?" I prompted and she sighed. She looked at me in the eyes and cleared her throat.
"I... Can you help me pick a dress?" She asked and her eyes flicked behind me then a tinge of red crept in her face. I looked back and saw Keith photocopying something in the machine that was situated in front of my cubicle. Realization dawned on me and my head snapped at the woman sitting in front of me uncomfortably. A knowing smile crept in my face and she turned red deeper.
"What?" She snapped and I raised my hands in mock surrender causing her to roll her eyes. "So, are you gonna help me out?" She asked hopefully and a question popped out of my head.
"Out of curiosity, why didn't you ask Genie or Faye to help you out instead?" I asked and she snorted.
"They will be busy dolling up their selves and will have no time to help me out at all." She said matter-of-factly and I frowned.
"You mean I'm not going to get dolled up and all?" I asked in amusement and she gave me her 'duh' face.
"You barely put lipstick on." She scoffed and I just shrugged it off. Whatever, as if I care, I didn't usually put make up on, just on rare occasions.
"Sure, so, after work, maybe?" I asked and she nodded. She stood up and went out of my cubicle. So, Jas has a thing for Keith and he seemed oblivious about it. Hmmmm...
I went to the pantry and made seven cups of coffee and placed the first three on a tray. I made my way towards Jas and handed her the coffee, she mumbled her thank you and I made my way to Genie.
"Good morning, sweetie." I said, placing the cup on her desk.
"Is this shade of pink looks good on me?" She asked and I smiled.
"Yeah, it accentuates your lips." I nodded and went out of her cubicle. I went next to Paul and gave him the cup of coffee. I went back to the pantry to get the other three and distributed them.
