Chapter Eighteen

"You did what?!" Amy screeched from the kitchen.

"I said, I allowed Nate to meet Nath officially, but just as my friend." I repeated as I continued folding clothes in the couch.

She came running out from the kitchen and halted in front of me. "You... with Nate? Are you guys back together?!" She exclaimed and I rolled my eyes.

"I said-" She interrupted me with a loud groan of frustration and I chuckled.

"Yes! I heard you twice! What I mean is, you're really sure about this? There's no turning back." She cocked an eyebrow and I sighed, tossing the red shirt I was folding before she arrived.

"I know. I'm not hundred percent sure that this will turn out good... but I'm hoping." I said weakly. Right, I'm hoping again.

She sat beside me with her body turned on my direction. "What happened?" She asked and a smile made its way in my face.

"He adores her. It's a really a good scene actually." I said and then when I caught sight of her face, she was smiling at me with a mixture of fondness and sadness.

"Why?" I asked.

"I love seeing you like this. I never thought that Nate can make you smile like this ever again." She said. I don't know where she's going with this.

"I thought we already lost that smile six years ago when tragedy hit your life." She said as her smile slipped away and her eyes became misty and it glazed as if a slideshow of painful memories is playing in her head.

"Hey. What's with the drama? Stop that!" I laughed and playfully smacked her shoulders. She shook her head in amusement and laughed too.

"Tell me more about what happened between the two of you before any of this occurred! How can you miss to tell your best friend about this?" I chuckled.

"I didn't know that he's the boss I was about to meet, so when I entered his office I was so shocked." I said as I took a shirt from the small pile of clothes in the coffee table.

"He gaped at me when he saw me... Like I just grew another head!" I snorted and she laughed.

"Really? Oh gosh, I want to see that too!" She laughed; I took another shirt and tossed it to her.

"Help me fold these clothes while we're chatting." She rolled her eyes and started folding.

"Then?" She prompted.

"We talked too, about us being history. Oh, and he said we should try to forget the past and start anew. You know the typical closure stuffs." I shrugged and she snorted. I cocked an eyebrow at her.

"You too are just so funny. Go on, just keep it up." She snickered, I gave her my best 'huh?' face, and she rolled her eyes.

"I said, just keep on fooling yourselves. You two are seriously hopeless." She sighed dramatically and it was my turn to roll eyes.

"You know what? Just keep in mind that we're not the same anymore. He's up there..." I raised my right hand above my head, "...and I'm down here." I leveled my left hand on my waist and cocked my head on the other side.

"What are you talking about? Not because he's the boss, he's up there!" She grabbed my left hand and dropped it down. I just shrugged.

"What's Nath's reaction upon seeing him?" She asked as we continued folding.

"Happy. She really likes him. She even asked me to ask Nate to be her dad." She stilled and gawked at me with her mouth opening and closing like she wanted to say something. I stifled a laugh by her comical face.
