Byakuya awoke to Ishi dragging him out of his bed. He hit his head against the floor like old times. “Get dressed you’re late.” Ishi barked. Byakuya glared at her turned back as he changed. Then he followed his old friend out of the complex. Ishi paused for a second. “Ya know we haven’t had much time together recently. So how about this Saturday? (It’s Wednesday) We can have lunch like we did when we were younger.” Ishi said looking over her shoulder. Byakuya nodded. Then they went to the meeting hall. Byakuya felt a warm sensation like someone was trying to practice laser vision on him. He glanced around out of the corner of his eye and saw Toshiro glaring at him. Don’t get any weird accusations in your head Hitsuguya. I’d rather finally beat her in something than date her. Does he even know what “Rivals” mean? Byakuya thought rather cruelly.
“Onto the pairings. Captain Hitsuguya and Captain Mai. Captain Unohana with Captain Ran. Captain Soifon with Captain Kuchiki. Captain Kurosutchi with Captain Zaraki. Captain Ukitake with Captain Kyoraku. Captain Kumomura will go with my Lieutenant Sasabaki.” The head captain announced. Byakuya raised a brow at his pairing but mentally shrugged knowing if he fought the head captain’s decision he will get his butt into a lot of trouble. “Oh and Hizu, Shi-Shi how is Kiyome?” “Making a fully recovery though her sister Kyoa has quiet the spirit energy sir.” Hizume said. “Sister?” the head captain asked. “Not by blood of course but Kyoa Haruno has been her “sister” for quiet the few years.” Ishi amended. The head captain made a “hm…” sound. “We’ll discuss this later for now go all of you!” the head captain ordered. So they all left. Ishi made Toshiro wait. “So everyone remembered the plan right?” Ishi asked. The head captain nodded. Why he was going with this no one knew. But in truth it was because if he didn’t he’d see their angry sides. Been there done that, no desire to nearly die again. Ishi and Toshiro left.

Soifon had the oddest feeling someone was following her and Byakuya. But whenever she glanced over her shoulder she saw no one. Thank goodness Kyoraku and Ukitake were fast. “Ishi they’re heading the opposite way plan B.” Kyoraku said into a walkie talkie. The angry tone buzzed. “K got it.” Then there was smoke and a raging fire further along. A young boy ran up. “Please you’re captain’s right? My brother’s caught in the blaze!” The boy pleaded. Soifon and Byakuya moved to where the fire was. People were crowded around. The two soul reapers saw the shadow of a hollow. They raced in there. “Captain Kuchiki I will look for the child you fight off the hollow.” Soifon said. Byakuya nodded. Soifon heard faint crying and found a little boy in there bawling hidden in a closet. Soifon reached out a hand. “Come on little boy we have to get out of here.” Soifon said. The boy looked up and meekly took her hand. Soifon rushed out with him. Looking around the small woman didn’t see Byakuya. “Where is the other captain I was with?” she asked.
An elderly woman said, “Still inside I’m afraid. He hasn’t come out yet.” Already covered in soot and ash Soifon dove back into the blaze as the other citizens were fighting the fire from the outside. Then she heard the fighting in the back. She made a rush towards Byakuya in just enough time to take a blow on her shoulder that would’ve ran right through him and kill him. Soifon didn’t cry out. Her training taught her better. Then she looked over at Byakuya and nodded. Then together she and Byakuya copied the movements of Hizume and Ishi. And together they performed a sealed state dual attack. The hollow fell to pieces and the blaze began to falter as the water set it out. They walked outside and they were being thanked by the people. “You’re hurt captain Soifon.” Byakuya said. Soifon looked at her bleeding shoulder. “Unohana should be nearby.” She said shrugging it off. “Then let’s go find her and Hizume.” Byakuya said as they walked off the find the healer captain.

Back at the “Burnt house”. The kido was released. The house had already been burnt. The boys became Kyoraku and Ukitake. Ishi transformed back into herself from the hollow and Momo was herself and not an old woman again. The “Stander by”s were played by random workers in the soul society. Ishi said "YES!” Then winced as she felt her shoulder and sides. She had to feign death but that didn’t mean her death was painless. “I know that look of Byakuya’s and Hizume can read Soifon’s face like a book! We just got to get them to admit their feelings!” Ishi cheered. Ukitake coughed a little. Kyoraku was covered in soot. “Tell me why did we have to play the brothers?” Ukitake asked. “I needed two people to make it look real.” Ishi shrugged as they made their way back to the sertei to get cleaned up.

“Today was a success sir.” Ishi said. The head captain got it. The plan worked. Soifon’s cut wasn’t deep so it wouldn’t alter her work schedule. “I heard a house went into a blaze.” The head captain said. “Yes sir. But me and captain Kuchiki dealt with it.” Soifon said. The head captain nodded. “Dismissed.” He said. They all wandered out. Ishi and Hizume were howling in laughter as they exited the squad one barracks. The others who were in on the plan understood, but those who weren't had no idea what was going on. They just assumed that Ishi or Hizume had cracked a funny joke when they were whispering to each other. “Phase two check now we move onto phase three.” Ishi purred. Hizume nodded, “then we worry about Kyoa Haruno.” The blue haired woman said. Ishi nodded. But for now the two just focused on the pairing plan.
