Mamoru felt the ground disappear. Hurriedly he grabbed the cliff side. He pulled himself up the rock not ready to die yet. Hizume cracked her whip and he barely rolled to the side before it struck. How long had it been? It feels like hours. “You need to learn to hide some thoughts. It’s only been 20 minutes.” Hizume said laughing a little. “Your zanpakuto disappeared. In its last efforts to survive it made you one of us. But if you can’t call it out as a broken weapon. You’re useless.” Hizume said. She twirled her whip around. Mamoru growled as he stood up. He was 7’9 and she only 6’0 but she was so scary right now. That intensity in her gaze. How she eyed him like he was nothing more than prey.

Mamoru charged. He needed to get a blow in. he was a master at hand to hand. No matter what he wasn’t gonna die. He had to live no matter what for Aiko. His dear sister. So boy was he surprised when Hizume caught his fist with ease. Not even a single drop of sweat was on her brow. “Mamoru. If this is all you have you will never make it as a Broken Shinigami.” Hizume said throwing him into the rock side. Mamoru coughed up a little blood.

He gasped his breathing rough. God she was powerful. He’d faced and killed countless foes. But so far he hadn’t even been able to put a single dent on her. And he doubted that this was all she had. So he charged again. Hizume merely moved to the side and he was falling.

The wind battered him as his hands became bloody trying to find purchase on the rocky side. No it couldn’t end like this. He couldn’t let Aiko down. She couldn’t survive without him! That’s when he felt it. The tug in his soul. It was a sharp tug and left a little bit of a sting on him as he felt something form in his hands. He looked at it. It was a giant axe. Swinging it he made it connect with the rock. I slowed him down and stopped his fall. He panted. He did it. The ax glowed dark red. It was it his Broken Weapon. He had a feeling this would’ve been his bankai. It felt good and reassuring in his hands. He let it loosen and he began to fall again.

Then finally he reached the bottom where Hizume was waiting. “I should’ve just thrown you off from the start.” She sighed from where she was sitting on a rock. Hefting the ax he threw it at her. Hizume jumped up and dodged it easily. “Don’t bleed so much. You might have to lose a hand.” Hizume said. “Now let’s bandage those hands up.” Hizume added. Mamoru growled but sat down and held his hands out. Hizume then quickly took out bandages and salve. Hizume put the salve on his bloodied hands. Then she tightly wrapped his hands up to staunch the bleeding. Mamoru sighed. “Why did you throw me off a cliff?” He asked.

“Because that’s how I first unlocked mine. Keiichi shoved me off the top of a mountain.” Hizume said sitting down as Mamoru collected his ax. Hizume then sent out to Keiichi and Ishi “Mamoru has succeeded.” She heard nothing in return but she could sense their approval. They were locked in what was going on. She then sensed Ishi respond, “Chiharu failed. I saved her before she died, barely. Gonna try combat.” Hizume sighed. Ishi wanted the waterfall to make it more dangerous. Saving her took away some of the threat but it was only because they needed the members that she saved her. Hizume sighed.

“What happened?” Mamoru asked. “Chiharu failed her first attempt. Ishi’s just gonna beat her up until she gets it right.” Hizume relayed with no issues. Mamoru knew he was gonna regret asking this but he had to know. “What happened to Ritsuka?” He asked calmly although on the inside he knew he would kill Keiichi. Aiko was his dear sister whom Ritsuka reminded him so much of. “Don’t know. I’m assuming she’s still alive.” Hizume said. Mamoru sighed. “Not much help you are.” He said. Then he was swearing as he clutched his back that had a burn on it from Hizume’s Hot Whip attack. “Be so glad I’m really far away or that would’ve cut right through you.” Hizume growled. Mamoru nodded as he rubbed his sore back. “Understood ma’am.” He said. Hizume snorted and said, “Don’t call me ma’am it makes me feel old.” Mamoru forced himself to not think of that comment.

Hizume still glared. “Come on we should go. You need nutrition you don’t have long before you pass out.” Hizume said standing up. Mamoru tried to stand then collapsed. “What why does my body ache like so.” He said panting. “When you force manifest it wears you down.” Hizume said picking him and his ax up. This was gonna be a long walk home.
