"I'm leaving now, mom." Gerard said as he threw his backpack over his shoulder and left the house.
He went to his car and revved up the engine as he tossed his backpack in the back seat. He pulled out of his driveway, and out onto the somewhat foggy road. He turned on the radio to a Nirvana song called "smells like teenage spirit." He turned it up.
After driving a ways down the road, he arrived at his destination-Ally's house. He got out of the car, and breathed in the dank air. He walked to the door with his hands in his pockets.
*Knock knock*
He waited, staring at the ground.... No one came to the door, he knocked again, and still, no answer.
"What the hell?" He asked himself.
He decided to call Ally, but before he put her while number in, another call came in. Caller ID: Frank.
"Sup, man" Gerard answered the phone with, leaning up against the house.
"Gerard," Frank said, with worry in his voice, "Ally's in the hospital."
Gerard's eyes widened and he stood up straight."No, she can't be, this can't be right."
"You probably wanna get down here." Frank suggested. "I'll see you in a bit." And with that, he hung up.
Gerard rested his forehead of the front door of her house. "C'mon, Ally," he said, "open the door. Tell me it's a lie."
He knew she wouldn't. He went to his car, and rushed to the hospital. He only hit few red lights on the way, but it still felt like he wasn't even moving. He finally pulled into the parking garage of the hospital, Frank text him the level and room, level two, room 109.
He ran as fast as he could. He spoke to the man at the counter, and was pointed in the direction of her room. He rushed past doctors and nurses. It seemed like the floor was moving against him, he couldn't move fast enough no matter how hard he ran. It seemed endless, as if the halls were just repeating and keeping him from Ally's room.
After what seemed like hours, he reached room 109, and took a deep breath before calmly opening the door.
No one was in the room but Ally, laying in a bed. He walked over to her bedside, and seeing her chest rise and sink gave him relief.
She was only sleeping.
He exhaled and ran his hands through his hair. He pulled a chair that was in the corner of the room, placed it at her bedside, and sat down next to her. He grabbed her hand, and noticed that his legs were shaking.
His head shot up as he heard the door open. It was a nurse.
"Hello." She said, as she saw Gerard.
"Is she going to be okay?" He asked, his leg bouncing up and down nervously.
"I think she'll be fine." The nurse explained. "After running a few tests, I believe they said that she just has a fever, and didn't get enough things, like protein, so she was already weak, the fever didn't help either. She's not very strong anymore, so little things like a fever and lack of nutrients are worse than regular people, she's getting worse, but she's okay right now."
He sighed with relief and leaned back in his chair. "Oh, thank God." He said.
The nurse left the room, and Frank passed her in the doorway. "Oh, Gerard you're here." He said.
"They said she'd be alright. It had something to do with a fever and shit." Gerard said, walking to Frank.
"I know, you okay?"
Gerard nodded, still catching his breath. "I'll be fine, I'm just glad she will be too."
They both sat down, Gerard next to Ally, in the chair he'd brought over, and Frank on the couch by the window. Gerard tightly gripped her hand, and put his forehead to it as he leaned closer to her, with his eyes tightly shut.
He didn't even notice that Frank was just staring at him with his arms folded, and a melding smile was trying to be held back.
Ally started to shift a bit, then, she opened her eyes. Everything was blurry for a second, but she could still see that someone was sitting right next to her. Things began to look normal.
"Gerard?" She asked.
"I'm right here." He said with a tender smile, happy to see her icy blue eyes gleaming as they opened.
"I'm glad you're here, Gerard." She said, the corner of her lips turning up. "So, lovely weather we're having?" She jokingly said.
He laughed. "Yeah." Then, he felt a tear roll down his cheek. He wiped it off and was somewhat surprised. He wasn't sad, she was okay, he was happy and a tear rolled down his face, because of it.
"I'm really tire." She said, rubbing her eyes, which had dark circle under them.
"I've got to got to work." Frank said, reading a text message from a fellow employee. I'll see you later, Ally."
"Bye, Frankie. Goodnight, Gerard." She said, rolling onto her side.
"Night." Gerard replied, even though they both knew it was still the morning.
*********************
He sat there for about a half and hour, reading, and staring at the white ceiling, speckled with a bit of black.
"Wait!" Ally moaned. Gerard's head shot up when he heard this, he saw that she was still asleep. Sweat ran down her face, and she stirred in her bed. "Don't go. Gerard! Please, stay. Don't leave."
Gerard held her hand, which lay at her side. Her head shook back and forth as if she were having a nightmare.
"I'm right here, Ally." He said . She continued stirring around. She was asleep but seemed restless the same time.
"The world is ugly." He began to softly sing as he held her pale hand, and brush the hair out of her face.
"But you’re beautiful to me
"Are you thinking of me
"Like I’m thinking of you?
"I would say I’m sorry, though
"Though I really need to go
"I just wanted you to know
"I wanted you to know
"I wanted you to know
"I’m thinking of you every night, every day."
She stopped tossing and turning. "I'm not going anywhere, Ally." He whispered. "Not without you."
