Sirius Black liked to think that he faced his problems head on, without avoiding them in any way, and for the most part this was true. He and James Potter were well known for being blunt and uncaring for the outcome of their actions. This was not a lie.
But as of late, Sirius Black wasn't staying true to himself.
He had spent the past few weeks avoiding Noelle after she pretty much told him every single one of the things he didn't want to hear. Sirius was a very stubborn boy and this was a fact. He couldn't accept that Noelle spoke the truth and that he had been wrong all along, but him not talking to her and fleeing every time he saw her, would further strain their relationship and he was only now realizing so. He hadn't seen how she was a constant he needed in his life until now. He also realized it wasn't just because he missed her physically, there was something more there, something deeper. They were feelings and emotions he hadn't felt at such level and he was beginning to feel overwhelmed by them. He was now aware that, whatever they had, they weren't just fuck buddies.
"Are you going to tie that or not?"
Sirius was brought back to himself and was reminded that he was not alone in the room. He looked to his right and met the eyes of Remus, who waited for an answer.
"What?"
"I asked if you were going to tie that yourself, because James isn't here to help you."
Sirius looked down at himself and was reminded that that night the Masquerade Ball would take place, as it was October 31st. James had already left and was down at The Great Hall with Lily as they were in charge of everything. He had been so out of it he didn't even realize that James had left along with Peter, thought he did not know why the latter left so early.
He sighed and dropped his hands on top of his lap "I don't even know how to do this." Sirius said, though he didn't know if he was talking about the tie or his previous realization.
"Get up. I'll do it for you." Sirius didn't have chance to get up himself because a second later Remus was pulling him up by the hands and doing his tie.
"Thanks." Remus only nodded to him and took a step back to admire his work, only he stared a little longer and sighed.
"You should talk to her."
"Talk to who?"
"Don't play dumb with me Sirius. I'm talking about Noelle and how you haven't spoken to her in a few weeks even though you've been hooking up since last year, and don't even try to deny it." he pointed an accusing finger at Sirius when he saw he was about to protest "I know because I have eyes and you started getting all touchy touchy with each other, plus you started being all secretive around us. James may have not caught up, but I did and it's only a matter of time before he does too so I suggest you get your shit together before making a move."
"I - how?"
"I noticed stuff and I asked Noelle, she knew I had figured it out and decided to not deny it."
"What- when?"
"Slughorns Christmas Party." he shrugged.
"I..."Sirius stopped and closed his eyes tightly "I think I'm falling in love with her." he confessed and as he did so, he felt that it had become even more real.
"I know."
"I don't know what to do."
"Do what you feel is best, but don't fuck it up because you're scared. That'll only hurt you both."
"Okay."

Meanwhile, James and Lily waited by the main entrance so the surprise could be hidden before the students got to see it. But something was wrong, Lily noticed. James, when nervous, would fidget and play with his hair and glasses, pushing them further up his nose even when they couldn't go any further. But this James was acting oddly. He was fidgeting too much, sighing every two seconds, stomping his feet and staring at the ceiling. He seemed frustrated and angry, which of the two Lily did not know. When sighed for the 50th time that night Lily glared at him and spoke.
