For some time, Orion's arrival brought joy to everyone.
He was a beautiful child and he wouldn't ever cry his lungs out unless he was hungry and that one time he got really sick. Otherwise he was a quiet, yet bubbly child. In some ways, he reminded Noelle of Regulus. Sirius too was reminded of his missing younger brother.
By the time Orion was born Regulus had already graduated Hogwarts, yet no one knew of him. He had been reported missing a few months after the newest addition to the Black family had been born. His mother had been the one to report him missing and asked the authorities for help in his search.
No one wanted to help her or tell her what had really happened, even though Walburga Black herself knew he had most likely been killed off by the Dark Lord or his minions as James liked to call them. Walburga was desperate in her search for her youngest. Her husband had suddenly fallen ill when news of his missing son got to him and he wished he'd done so many things differently, but he didn't know how to mend broken hearts and he felt that, no matter how hard he tried he would fail. Still, he tried to get his wife to see Sirius, maybe he could try and do something right before he died, but if his eldest son and his wife had something in common it was their stubbornness. The woman refused and was headstrong in the thought that Sirius was the one in the wrong, the older Orion had laughed dryly and, for the first time in a long time, he felt he'd gotten through Walburga.
"Walburga, let me ask you something" the woman, who had been folding some of his clothes, stopped her movements and looked at him, turning her body slightly towards him. "Where's Regulus?"
Walburga froze over and held his shirt tightly before sitting stiffly next to him in his bed. "He's... I don't know... my baby boy... he's-he's missing" she sniffled holding the shirt tightly to her chest.
"Exactly. And you know who's fault it is?"
"Orion, don't you dare-"
"Walburga! We've known this all along! This is the reason why our eldest left us! He was right, even if it hurts to admit defeat, he was right all along!"
"Orion... don't start this with me again. Please. I remained silent when you would question things and respected your wishes when it came to treating mudbl-"
"Oh for Merlin's sake! Walburga, everything we've been taught is a whole load of crap! There's neither scientific nor magical evidence that proves that muggleborns can steal magic from wizard folk! We were made to believe that in order to justify how we treated other magical people with a different upbringing than those from the so called Sacred Twenty-eight. And one of those blood purists fanatics out there is going off on a killing spree because other magic people, like you and me, purebloods, decided not to join him. Walburga, have you ever thought that maybe our son was killed by that same man? The one who said he would make the world better for us? Who said that not a drop of magical blood would be spilt?" the man stopped his rant as a dry cough racked through his body and the woman found herself getting up and looking for his medicine. Once the coughing stopped, she served him the dark liquid in a spoon and fed it to him without giving him a chance to prepare himself for the disgusting flavor. The man pulled different faces for a whole minute until his wife gave him a glass of water.
"You're just like him... always one for dramatics" she smiled softly as she looked at her hands, the same hands who made and broke her child.
"That's one of the many talents he got from me"
"What's another of his talents?" she looked at him shyly, and it was a look he had forgotten, but otherwise melted whatever was left of his cold heart.
"The ability to fall in love with the best woman in the world..." she smiled lightly at him and he closed his eyes before leaning comfortably against the many pillows behind him and saying smugly "and making beautiful children"
