Luke looks between us both and laughs.
"Do I even need to guess?" I stare at him, my brows furrow.
"Nothing happened Luke, leave us alone." Luke looks by me and into the room, eyeing the now empty wine glasses.
"Hm, I'm sure."
"Why do you care so much who I'm with anyway?"
"So something did happen?" I sigh. "Fantastic."
"Luke just mind your business." Ashton speaks up and wraps an arm around me, his hand resting on my hip. Luke watches and scoffs.
"How long have you two known each other? One day? And you've already let him in, Alice? Really?" I become angry.
"What I do with my body is none of your business." He laughs.
"Yeah, as far as I'm concerned I'm your only friend and you're coming really close to losing me." I frown.
"You should be happy for me anyway, I don't know why you're so mad."
"I didn't realize one of my closest friends was such a whore." He finally quits biting his tongue and speaks the truth. He eyes me angrily.
"You better watch how you talk to her." Ashton joins in and Luke laughs at him.
"What are you gonna do? Nothing. Enjoy your slut." Ashton lets go of me and advances toward Luke.
"Listen dickhead, don't get all pissed off because your little girl crush decided she wanted something better-"
"Shut up." Luke cuts off, but Ashton continues to speak over him.
"It isn't my fault that she didn't want to settle for less. I bet you've been at her feet for years. Don't you think it's time to take the damn hint?" He smirks and Luke shakes his head.
"Fuck off, mate."
"I'm sorry she decided to sit on my dick and not-" Luke finally snaps and his fist flies into Ashton's face, causing him to stumble back. Ashton looks at Luke and I can see the anger bubbling within him. Ashton shakes his head.
"You fucker." He moves toward Luke and punches him right back, but seeming harder.
"Fuck, will you two knock it off!" I shout but Luke doesn't listen and neither does Ash.
Luke knocks Ashton down and pins him down with his knees. He sends more punches at Ashton's face.
"Luke!" I go to him and roughly push him off Ashton. He barely budges so I punch at him and he gets off angrily.
"Fuck you both!" Ashton stands up and wipes the blood from his nose and lip.
"You need to get the fuck out of my house. I didn't even invite you here so you have no right to come into my house and start this shit." Luke gives him a cold stare.
"I didn't come for you anyway," Luke eyes me and nods his head toward the stairs. "Let's go we're leaving."
"No."
"No? Your mum wants me to bring you home safely so come on."
"I'm not leaving with you."
"Alice stop being fucking stubborn and get your ass over here!" I jump at his tone. "We're leaving." I look to Ashton then back at Luke. I go to Luke. He seems surprised at first then collects himself.
"Good."
"I'm not speaking to you. Goodbye, Ashton." Ashton nods and Luke and I make our way downstairs. My arms are crossed as I push my way through the crowd of sweaty people. We walk outside and when we come to his car he unlocks it. He doesn't open my door for me this time. I walk to my side and get in.
It's silent as Luke starts driving. He turns the radio up a bit and lucid dreams by juice wrld plays. I sigh deeply and rest my head against my window.
"I'm sorry." He speaks up. I don't respond to him. When he realizes I won't answer he speaks again. "I didn't mean to snap like that."
"It was childish." I reply. He sighs deeply.
"I just...care about you." I look over to him.
"So you ruin my perfectly good night with him by beating the shit out of his face?" He rolls his eyes and grips the steering wheel tighter.
"No, that wasn't my intention but the shit he was sayin-"
"Was it not true?" I cut him off. Luke locks eye contact with me for a quick second before looking back at the road.
"It wasn't," He says after a while. "None of it." I frown a bit. I could've sworn he'd had a crush on me after all these years.
I'm so fucking selfish. Why should I even care? He's my friend.
"I'm sorry okay, Luke?" I look at him. "I'm sorry that I'm so bitter and mean and cold to you all the time but I don't mean to be. I guess it's just how I am." He nods.
"It's fine."
"It isn't."
"Just don't worry about it. It's done with. No need to talk about it, alright?" I slump back in my seat as the car comes to a stop in front of my house. Luke sighs beside me.
"Just be careful alright?" He frowns, his facial expression suggests he'd like to say more, but he keeps it at that.
"Why's he so terrible to you? Why do you hate him?" He shrugs.
"I wouldn't say that I hate him. He just isn't someone I get along with anymore." I don't believe him but I let it go.
"Okay."
"Yeah."
"I hope you sleep well," He nods. "And drive home safe." I add. He looks at me and smirks.
"Wow, you're actually being nice to me." He laughs.
"Don't push it," I smile. "See you at school." I get out the car and he does a three-sixty before speeding off.
I was lucky to have Luke and I need to start remembering that. He's done nothing but care for me and be kind and all I've done is take it for granted.
I push my key into the door and walk inside. My mum is laying on the couch, waiting for me I assume. She sees me and smiles.
"How was your night?"
"Eventful." I reply dry. She frowns.
"You okay?" I shrug.
"Yeah I'm fine."
"Something happen between you and Luke?" I open my mouth to speak but then close it.
"It's fine, mum." She nods.
"Sleep well, honey." I run upstairs and once I get into my room I strip down to just my underwear and hop in bed.
And as selfish as it sounds, all I can think about is the way Ashton felt.
