The boys were all standing around Cristina's family's living room, hands tucked away in their pockets and their luggage piled behind them. They awkwardly swayed back and forth, glancing at all the pictures and decorations strategically placed around. Luke paced over towards a shelf hung beside a bookshelf, gently grabbing a framed picture of Cristina as a small toddler. He smiled down at it, taking a moment to show the boys.
"Look at how cute she was."
Cristina entered the room, her cheeks automatically heating up as she watched all the boys analyze the embarrassing photos of her childhood. She ran over, pushing through their small huddle and grabbing the picture out of Luke's hands. It was one of the family favorites of Cristina in her matching Winnie the Pooh pajama set, trying to fit a plastic spoon up her nose. Cristina hugged the picture against her chest, feeling even more embarrassment.
"Okay, enough of that! Are y'all hungry or tired? Did you already meet my parents? Should we hang out here before heading over to my apartment?"
Before the boys got the chance to speak up, her mom appeared next to Ashton, letting her hands linger on his bicep. "I think you all should stay for dinner, let's all get to know each other."
Cristina rolled her eyes, as did her father. She placed the picture back where it was meant to be, changing her mind and question.
"We can't stay mom, we already have dinner plans. We're just going to go now, leave you and dad to talk." Cristina grabbed a hold of Ashton's hand, pulling him away from her cougar mother. The others all grabbed their luggage, following Cristina to her car parked on the side of the road. She popped the trunk, helping them figure out how to fit everything before everyone argued on who got shotgun.
"Michael's just going to sleep in the car so I think he should be in the back."
Michael shrugged at Calum's argument, "He's not wrong."
Cristina nodded, "Okay, so Michael is in the back middle. Who's getting shotgun?"
Ashton was first up to argue, "I'm the dad of the group, I should be up front with the mom."
Cristina blushed at being called mom, it was weird but cute coming from him. She made note of his argument, waiting for the other boys to come up with something.
Luke casually made his point, "I'm the tallest, so I think I should be up front because there's more leg room."
Calum scoffed, "We're all around the same height, Luke. Your argument is invalid."
Luke motioned to his phone, "According to google and many other blogs, I'm 6'4."
Ashton laughed, "You don't have the quiff anymore, Luke. You can't use that argument."
Luke crossed his arms, glancing at Cristina. "Fine, so I'm not exactly 6'4, but I'm still the tallest therefore I should get shotgun."
Cristina patiently watched everyone argue, waiting for Calum's point.
Calum shrugged, "I don't know, I just wanted to have control of the aux and talk with Cristina."
Cristina internally went 'awe' before starting to make a decision. Just before she could, her mother came out of the house, wanting to convince them to stay. Cristina quickly made a random decision, just wanting to get away.
"Luke, get up front. The rest of you in the back, we're leaving now."
Luke laughed victoriously while the others groaned. They all climbed in and Cristina started up the vehicle, quickly waving at her parents while pulling off. During their little trip to, what was supposed to be, Cristina's apartment, Cristina offered up a new plan.
"Do y'all want to meet my grandmother? I mean, my apartment is kind of empty and bland still. Plus, y'all could have your little cook off in an actual functional kitchen with actual food. My grandmother could judge and watch over y'all so we don't burn anything down. She also has spare bedrooms for the night."
The guys all agreed, excited to meet Cristina's grandmother, eat actual food and sleep in real beds.
"Luke, take my phone and send a text to her, saying we're coming over for the night."
Luke took Cristina's phone, laughing as he saw her background. He quickly found the messages between her and her grandmother, making up a quick text to let her know. As he locked it back up and placed it down, he softly spoke, "I like your background."
Cristina's eyes opened wider as she reached for her phone, quickly unlocking it to find an embarrassing picture of Luke. She quickly placed her phone face down, squeezing the steering wheel a bit tighter, "I hate myself, I'm sorry you had to see that."
Luke chuckled, "It's okay, it's cute."
Cristina shrugged, her shyness peeking through. "Well, of course it's cute, it's you."
Ashton's head appeared in the space between them, "Hey, should we get something for your grandma, like flowers or chocolates? I don't know, like a 'nice to meet you' kind of gift?"
Calum's face appeared in the rear view mirror, "We should get her flowers, just to thank her for letting us stay with her for the night."
Ashton raised his hand slightly, "I'll pay for them."
Then things got weird.
