I stared into the depths of the fire and watch the light swirl and dance around. Ellie wouldn't stop bouncing her leg. She was probably nervous, since we were in the middle of the woods and monsters could be lurking in every shadow. I never got nervous around monsters. You come up with a plan and fight them, it's as simple as that.
"What do you think is out there?" my friend asked. I rolled my eyes and sat up.
"I dunno. Maybe a Minotaur or some drakons or something", I responded flatly. I'm a Roman-raised daughter of Athena, and I've never really known fear. I couldn't understand what my Greek friend was going through. Why, you may ask, did I not go to the camp that was all the way across the country? Well, I had known Jason Grace and Reyna long before I even found out that I was a demigod. Plus, the Bay Area is and always will be my home. I even had a life at Camp Jupiter. Then that stupid Octavian kid had to ruin everything and tell them I was Greek. In spite of Jason and Reyna's best efforts, I was thrown out of the camp. The Hayward Hills was where I found my long-lost friend Ellie. She was going to Camp Half-blood, and I figured I might as well tag along and keep her safe.
I heard a twig snap and I silently jumped to my feet. Ellie froze and grabbed her bow. My Imperial Gold stabbers slid out of the mechanisms strapped to my arms. My hunting knife was at my left hip and my saxe was at my right. I had even more weapons hidden and hung everywhere. A throwing knife in my right boot, a stiletto in my left boot, a short sword on my back, and a Swiss Army knife in my pocket.
"Sara?" Ellie whispered.
"What?"
"What is it? What's it gonna do to us?:
"We don't know if it's a monster Ellie. Just calm down."
A curse was heard and a saytr stumbled into the clearing. The color drained from his face as he saw two demigods armed to the teeth and a fierce glint in their eyes.
"P-p-please don't k-kill me", he begged,"I-i'm Grover and I've b-been sent to find you. I c-can lead you to the camp if you like..."
We followed Grover through the forest, weapons still drawn. I stopped in my tracks when I heard a snort. Just like a bull...oh shit. I spun around and saw the Minotaur towering over me.
"Uhhhhh....Ellie?" I shouted, hoping she wasn't too far ahead.
