I shot a quick glare ad Luk--Liam, and ran off after Ellie. Annabeth followed, obviously curious to know more about the while Ellie/Luke relationship. I stopped Annabeth when we got to about fifty feet away from Ellie.
"Stop here. We need to give her some space", I told my half-sister.
"OK, but I'm going to need a few things explained first. You, and how she knew Luke", Annabeth whispered. "I mean, I've known since I was seven. I even had a bit of a crush on him. I think I would have known if he had a girlfriend. And on the subject of you are, we have the exact same color eyes...that isn't normal for children of Athena..."
"Yeah, they always tend to be a few shades off...anyways!", I said, clapping my hands together to change the subject. Annabeth and I were a bit too close for my liking. I stepped away and proceeded to explain the whole Luke business. "Ellie and Luke were best friends when we were in elementary school. Luke disappeared during middle school and came back by our sophmore year of high school. They grew really close and kept it a secret from everyone...".
Annabeth nodded, so I assumed the story made sense in her mind as I rubbed the bars on my arm. It was a habit I had fallen into on the road to New York. I assumed that in my subconscious I saw it as a link to New Rome and my past. Back when everything was golden...but it hadn't stayed gold for long. My father was killed by a hydra only a week before I was thrown from the camp. I never talked about my family much, since he was the only family I had known.
"Why are you doing that?" Annabeth asked.
"Oh, ummm...I was just thinking...it's just out of habit."
"Right. I'll show you to the cabin. It's getting dark."
I guess I had gotten a little emotional when I was thinking about my past, since I ended up telling Annabeth everything that had happened to me. I don't know why, but I felt like I could tell her anything.
"I'm pretty sure that I hate Athena", I confessed. "I've never really hated anyone before, except for that stinking hydra, and I get the same feeling when I think about either of them."
"I'm not very happy with our mom either, but you have a better reason than I do...".
