"What would you have done if the empousai had come after me?" Leo teased.
"Killed them", I replied as we got off the train.
"Oh really?"
"They were going to kill us. Don't think for a minute that it's because I'm jealous."
"Why wouldn't you be jealous?"
"Honestly, if four girls that looked that good came up to you on the subway, it wouldn't be because they want you to go to prom with them."
"You two are so cute, insulting each other like that", Ellie said, smiling when the sun hit her face and we emerged into the noisy, smelly, fast New York City streets.
"Castro Valley is much better", I whispered to Ellie, referencing the large town in the East Bay where we were raised. She nodded and we walked into the Empire State Building. I went up to the man at the front desk and whispered the code word. He nodded and handed me the key.
"Shit", Liam muttered. "It's packed, we might have to wait a while for an empty elevator."
"Or we could take the stairs to the second level and try to get one the elevator there", I said.
"Right. Away we go".
