Leo pulled the ferry into the harbor and we exited as discreetly as we could. Sneaking past the dock security, we headed to Manhattan.
"No buses", Liam had said. "Furies love buses."
We scrounged up enough money to take the subway to the Empire State Building. I closed my eyes and tried not to freak out in the ungerground, over-crowded train car.
"You'll be fine", Leo whispered, taking my hand. "And even if Zeus tries to kill you, he'll have to get past me first."
"You'd go up against the king of the gods, just to save a girl you've known for only a week?" I asked, touching my forehead to his.
"Well...people do crazy things when they're in love."
"Don't try to sneak a Disney reference past me, Leo. Especially not a Hercules one."
"Fine", Leo said, chuckling. We were getting some odd looks from other passengers. I guess they didn't take to kindly to prolonged P.D.A. in New York.
We stopped again and a couple of girls stood in front of us, hanging onto the hand rails. They had a strange limp and when one looked at me, their eyes glowed red. I sat up and tapped Leo. One of the girls started inching closer to Liam.
"Empousai", Leo whispered amd I nodded.
"Why can't these fucking monsters just back off".
