The engine of the car sputtered as we rounded the corner. Veronica pulled off the front road just before the engine completely killed.
"Shit," Veronica muttered.
Heather huffed from the back seat, "I told you guys it sounded funny when we left." I rolled my eyes. Veronica smacked her hands on the steering wheel as Heather hopped out of the car.
She popped her head back in, "You guys coming?"
I looked at her in confusion, "Where?"
It was her turn to roll her eyes, "Well, the car broke down and The DX is right up the street." All it took was for her to mention the DX and both Veronica and I were out of the car. The attractive employees were more than just a bit responsible for our hustle.
The two of us were convinced that if Heather didn't think she was thirty and responsible for everyone around her, she'd be all over them too. But anytime we brought it up she told us life is too short for what ifs, accept what you're given and work with it.
Thanks to our hustle, we were outside The DX in no time with Heather still strolling at the other end of the block. Veronica and I turned to each other and shrugged, we get in a lot more flirting when it's just the two of us anyways.
We walked up to see a decently good looking young man.
One look and Veronica leaned over to me, "Dibs."
I reluctantly gave in. Veronica made her way to the man with a flirty smile, "I don't suppose you could help us with some car troubles?" The man smiled and was quick to get the information on our incident.
He pulled a set of keys from his pocket, "How about we go down and tow it back here?"
Veronica stopped herself before she accepted and looked at me, I signaled that she was fine to go, but not before the boy noticed our exchange.
He was quick to try and find a solution, "Don't worry about your friend, I'll have my bud come and keep her company."
He jogged into the small building and returned with the best looking boy I'd seen yet, "Damn." I kept my voice quiet but I was quick to call dibs this time.
The first boy brought him over to me, "This is Soda. Soda, meet..." he trailed off not knowing my name.
I gave a flirty smile, "Bailey."
He gave me a movie star grin, "Nice to meet you."
I bit my lip, "Nice to meet you, too."
Just as Veronica left with the first boy, Heather finally arrived.
Soda raised an eyebrow, "Friend of yours?" I nodded but hoped she wouldn't come over. Nothing personal, I just wanted to get to know Soda. Heather was quick to pick up on my body signals and began looking down the street from the other side of the lot.
"So Soda, how old are ya?"
"Seventeen, you?"
I smiled. This was just too perfect, "Seventeen." Veronica and I were the same age but Heather had her birthday a few months back and was eighteen.
Soda leaned against the wall, "You come here often?"
I laughed, "Only when we have car troubles, so, no. Not really."
He smirked, "That's too bad."
I blushed as I searched for something to say.
Soda beat me to it, "This may sound crazy, but do you want to do something Friday?"
I smiled, "What do you have in mind?"
I heard footsteps and it was a safe assumption that Heather had walked further away.
