Lakin

Now with crazy pants gone, things calmed down a bit. Thank god. I thought this year would be different. I guess not.

I spent the day with Mia. She was doing a lot better. The only thing she was having issues with was reading and remembering things. We expected that.

Her motor skills were still behind, but mostly, she was my Mia.

I knocked on the door, and Michael answered it. Mia came down the stairs, grabbed her jacket, and we left. We strolled to town, hand in hand. It was nice to spend this time with her.

She looked in the windows of different shops, mesmerized by the items.

"Come on," I nodded as she followed me into a shop. We looked around, and she came across a necklace.

"Look at this, Lakin," Mia said, holding it up.

A woman walked over and saw us. "I see you found a locket."

"It's beautiful," she said as she stared at it.

"They say, when you open it up, you place pictures of people you love, so you always have them close to your heart," she explained.

"I like that," Mia smiled.

"How much is it," I asked her.

"That runs about fifty dollars, but I'll sell it to you for twenty-five," she smiled genuinely.

"Sold," I said as she took the locket and carried it to the front. Mia was excited, and I loved seeing her happy.

The woman rang it up, and I paid for it. I placed it around Mia's neck. I told her I would get her pictures for it later. We left and went to our next destination.

A man came out and looked at her. "Did you just sell your locket," he asked her concerned.

"Yep, I did," the woman answered.

"Why?" He asked her.

She turned to him, "Because sometimes we need to pass on the love."

He gave her a genuine smile, "You're such a romantic at heart."

"I learned it from you," she said as he kissed her.

Mia and I went to Kate's Bakery. I ordered two coffees and muffins. As I walked back to our table, I saw some chick flirting with her. I rolled my eyes.

I set our food and beverages down then looked at the chick. "I will give you two seconds to leave."

She huffed and got up, leaving. I sat down.

"I'm sorry, Lakin," Mia apologized.

"Baby girl, you have nothing to worry about now. You did nothing wrong," I smiled genuinely at her. She smiled and picked up her muffin. That girl was a stupid twit.

Unlike my siblings, I'm not the type to back down from a fight, and I don't back down from someone thinking they're taking what's mine. Mia was mine. She was my baby girl, and no one else's.

We sat there and enjoyed ourselves. After we finished, we walked out, and that girl from before decided that she wanted to start shit. I hauled off and knocked the girl on her ass. Then I cracked my neck and knuckles.

She stared at me, wide-eyed as Luna walked up and said, "Hey Lake."

The girl looked at me. "Wait, you're Lakin Gray?"

"What do you think?" I asked her with slight irritation.

"I thought you were Larkin," she exclaimed.

"Okay, first, you're dumb. Larkin and Lyric are identical. Second, you have two minutes to explain what the hell you meant by that," I barked.

Before she said something, Larkin walked up. "Damn." She shoved a muffin into her mouth.

"Care to explain to me why you thought I was Larkin," I asked her as Larkin ate.

"Because everyone knows Larkin can't fight," she spat.

"Oh, hell no. Here hold my muffins!" Larkin exclaimed as she shoved her muffins at Luna, then jumped on the girl. She slammed her fist into the girl. Luna went to take a bite, and Larkin yelled, "Eat that, and you're next!"

"Meh, I'll take my chances." She shrugged as she took a bite. That's all it took. Ever see an animal who is starving, and you eat their food? Yep, that was Larkin.

"Get off me, you crazy bitch," Luna yelled as she hit her back.

"Then don't touch my food, you stupid twit," she growled.

I stood there and watched them. Mia returned a short while later with two coffees.

"How long should we let them go?" Mia asked me.

"Beats me." I shrugged as we drank our coffee.

Then Major and Maverick ran over and broke it up. Those are bad move boys. We stood there and watched as Major got punched in the eye, "Ooh."

Maverick got kicked in the junk, dropping him to his knees. We cringed.

"Oh hell no, they're on their own," Major said as he held his eye. Maverick was on the ground, curled up in a ball. Yeah, fair warning, never get in between a fight with us. It never ends well. Dad found this out quickly.

We watched as Lex walked over and yanked them both apart. They kicked him, and he kicked them back. They jumped around, cursing him.

He shook his head and looked at me. "Are you just going to stand there, drinking coffee?"

"Well, yes, and it's fantastic coffee," I shrugged.

He gave me a look. I smirked.

We all heard laughing. We all turned to see Mia laughing. I couldn't help but smile. That was the one thing I missed was her laugh. She was laughing more since they injured her.

I looked at Lex, and he sighed. They all knew how much I missed her laughing. Maverick got up, and Major walked over to Luna. They bowed as Mia laughed more.

Yeah, I had them stage this, but I wasn't planning on having interference from a twit. Eh, it all worked out. I got to hear my girl laugh. That's all that mattered to me.
