Senior year came with craziness and wedding planning. What may you ask, did that mean? That between my sisters, cousins, and the Harpers, life was nuts. That also meant more visits from Dad and the brothers, figures.

We were also planning our weddings. Dad suggested we all get married the same day. He promptly got vetoed on his suggestion by us. We all had to share a womb for eight months; we didn't want to share our wedding day.

We all decided it was time to follow Luna's lead and get our places. That drove dad nuts. At some point, it's time to get your own space.

As we moved through senior year, we also found out that we each had a surprise waiting for us when we got married. Our family told us to consider it a wedding gift. Yep, we each would have a house waiting after we got back from our honeymoon.

As for weddings, we each had our ideas what we wanted.

Lyric and Michael decided on something traditional. It suited her.

Larkin and Maverick decided on something simple with lots of food. Did you expect anything less? As long as there was a lot of food, Larkin was right.

Lakin and Mia wanted something small, and nothing big, just our family. In Lakin's words, she didn't know those other twits. There was no arguing with her.

Luna and Major wanted their wedding on the beach. Luna wanted something romantic to signify how she felt about Major. No wonder she was the writer of the family.

As for Piper and me, we figured family and friends would be fine. Honestly, the wedding wasn't a big deal with me; I was more excited to start my life with Piper. I couldn't wait.

As senior year flew by, we all graduated. I think it relieved our parents we survived. I mean, with all the stuff we went through, we survived. That was a miracle.

Our parents came not only to see us graduate but also to bring us home. In a week, there would be the first wedding.

Once we finished packing, we loaded up the cars and made our way home. It was about time. Now I could work in the bakery, which I had always wanted to do since I was a kid.

We got home and went into the house. Once we all unpacked, the five of us hung out. It was nice to hang with my fellow quints. Considering soon, one by one, we would be leaving.

Ma and Dad came into my room as we all talked.

"Now, this is something I never thought I would ever see," Dad said to Ma.

"Yeah, I think aliens abduct them," she said to him as we rolled our eyes.

"What are you five doing?" He asked us.

"Oh, you know, just hanging out," Larkin said nonchalantly.

"Then I guess you don't want ice cream?" He asked us.

We all looked at each other and smiled as we got up, walking out of the door. Dad chuckled as he and Ma followed suit.

Nash

Mags and I sat there with the quints as we enjoyed our ice cream. I pictured them when they were little and couldn't help feeling an ache in my chest. Our babies had grown up, and we had to let them go.

"Dad?" Someone said.

Lyric's voice broke me from my nostalgia.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"You okay?" Lyric asked me.

"Just thinking," I said, setting my spoon down. "I look at all you, and I wish I could keep you small. I know I can't, but I wish I could, then I could protect you," I said to the kids.

"But you have always protected us and been there for us," Lyric told me.

I furrowed my brows, and what each said next surprised me.

"You were there when Daniel died," Lyric told me.

"You were there when I needed you after what Roger did," Larkin said.

"When I went through hell with Mia," Lakin added.

"Anytime any of us got hurt, you were there," Luna finished.

"Dad, you've always been there for us when we needed you. There was never a time we couldn't call you, and you wouldn't come. You always came," Lex said to me.

I sat there, looking at them.

"Ice cream always makes things better," Mags said to me.

I turned to her as she smiled. At that moment, I knew what my ma meant. I didn't before, but I do now.

After we finished our ice cream and talked, I visited someone.

I opened the door and yelled, "Ma?"

"In the kitchen, Nash," she yelled back.

I walked into the kitchen.

"I thought you were out having ice cream?" She asked me.

"I was, but I realized something," I said.

"What's that?" She looked at me as I walked over and hugged her. "You were right. Ice cream makes everything better."

She hugged me back.

It was never about ice cream. It was always about being there for someone when the person needed you - showing you care when you're at your lowest.

Growing up, when we had a bad day, our parents would always take us for ice cream. Then they would talk to us. It was the only time we knew no matter what, they would be there for us.

Ma said Grandpa used to do it with her when she was growing up. She had even told him, ice cream doesn't fix everything. His answer was simple, maybe not, but it would help.

It was his way of helping her when she needed it.

I released her and sighed.

"Nash? What's wrong?" She gave me that look.

"It's hard. The kids are all getting married and will leave," I said to her.

She gave me an understanding look.

"How did you and Dad handle us leaving?" I asked her.

"Because we knew you were in good hands," I heard Dad say. I turned, and he walked over to us.

"Nash, you want your kids to be happy and hope they meet someone that will love them as much as you do. We knew that when you married," ma said to me.

"It's hard watching your children leave, but you always know that no matter what, they will always be your children," Dad told me.

It was something I needed to hear at that moment, from one parent to another.

I knew one thing was for sure, no matter what, the quints would always be our babies.
